The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Willians rushes in with a sloppy looking punch
and Mendes counters with a two punch combo.
Mendes shoots in but doesn't get the takedown
and Willians connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.
Mendes fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Willians avoids it really well and circles away.
Willians connects with a single shot there.

We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.
Willians looks up at the clock and then as Mendes takes his cue and looks up at the clock too, Willians smacks him right in the chops with a big elbow! How rude!
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Willians cracks Mendes with a big right hand but Mendes just smiles back at him and invites him to have another go.

Willians creates some space and throws a big elbow, but Mendes sees it coming and moves his head just enough to avoid the strike.

The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.

Willians is nestled in close to Mendes, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.
Mendes makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Mendes.

Willians has a momentary lapse of concentration, allowing Mendes to throw up a leg and lock on what appears to be a pretty tight triangle! Willians is fighting it off but it's all too little too late - Mendes pulls down on the head and he's put Willians to sleep! This one is all over!
