Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Josh Barnett (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ivan Yuber (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 13 - 12 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Josh Barnett!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 7 - 3 - 1, fighting out of Las Vegas, Ivan Yuber!
The judges for this bout are Cecil Peabody, Wesley Smith and Tiny Johnson.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Yuber gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here.
Yuber will no doubt start fighting again in a minute but for now he's just having a little rest, leaning Barnett up against the cage.

Yuber turns his hips and lands a very nice judo throw into side control!
You can see the frustration on Barnett's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.

Yuber tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Yuber has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

Yuber wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Barnett, who protects the arm well.
Barnett is looking for a sweep.
You can see the frustration on Barnett's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Yuber is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Barnett is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Yuber wants to lay and pray for a moment but Barnett keeps working.
Barnett manages to get back to half guard.

Barnett has one foot on Yuber's thigh - he pushes off and manages to get back to his feet.
Barnett has been talking about how he's improved his wrestling in the run up to the fight so let's see if that's enough to sway the balance.

The fight moves into the clinch position.
Yuber has dropped down and is looking to force the takedown but it's defended by Barnett after a bit of a struggle.
Yuber pushes Barnett back against the cage and lands a hook to the side of the head.
Yuber has a couple of punches blocked by Barnett.
Yuber drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Barnett gets the underhooks and prevents it.
Yuber is trying to maintain a safe position but Barnett gets an underhook and turns Yuber into the cage.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Yuber manages to break the clinch.
Barnett tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Yuber misses with a hook. Barnett ducked under it nicely.
Yuber lands with a two punch combination before moving back out of range.


It looks like Josh Barnett has been cut.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Barnett lets the fists fly and connects with a left straight followed by a right hook.
Yuber tries to score a power double leg takedown but Barnett sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Yuber somewhat.
Josh Barnett has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Ivan Yuber.

Yuber has taken the fight to the clinch.

Yuber pulls Barnett into guard.
Barnett stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Yuber swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Yuber pulls Barnett in to control the position.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Yuber keeping moving, preventing Barnett from controlling successfully.
Barnett wants to pass the guard but Yuber is keeping the position.

The ref stands the fighters back up because Josh Barnett just wasn't active enough.
Yuber dives in and grabs Barnett's left leg, looking for a takedown. Barnett pushes down on Yuber's head and hops out.
Barnett shoots for a takedown but Yuber saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Yuber.
Yuber has his takedown stuffed
and Barnett counters nicely by changing levels and landing a hook to the body.
No joy there for Barnett, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Yuber moves in looking to clinch but Barnett pushes him off.
Yuber throws a combination that misses

and Barnett counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Barnett.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
A short uppercut from Yuber.
Yuber has been looking to improve his clinch game in recent weeks. So far he's outscoring his opponent in the clinch so it seems to have been worthwhile.

Yuber has hold of one of Barnett's legs. Barnett is fighting the takedown attempt but Yuber gets the trip and lands the takedown into guard.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Barnett looking for a sweep. Not yet Barnett, not yet.
Yuber pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Barnett is keeping the position for now.

Yuber postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Barnett is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Yuber, into his guard.
Barnett forces his way into half guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Ivan Yuber dominated that round.
The cut man is working on Josh Barnett's cut.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.


Barnett swats away the attempt to clinch by Yuber.
Josh Barnett is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Yuber fails with an attempt to clinch.
Yuber tries to clinch up but Barnett circles away and keeps his distance.

Yuber shoots in and gets a takedown into Barnett's guard.
Yuber trying to control the position from guard on top but Barnett is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Barnett looking for subs off his back but Yuber has passed one foot through into half guard.

Yuber is working for a submission of some sort.

Yuber is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Barnett is just riding it out for now. Yuber eventually gives up the hold.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Yuber content to control rather than advance.
Barnett is looking to improve his position.
Yuber tries to stand but can't do so whilst Barnett controls his leg.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Barnett wants to improve his position but Yuber is controlling well.
Yuber seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Barnett does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.

Yuber seems like he's working for an arm triangle here. He's freed his trapped foot and he's rotating nicely. Barnett is in big trouble! He's tapping out! This one is aaaaaaaaaaaall over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:40 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Arm Triangle). Ivan Yuber!
