Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
14 - 16 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Luis Barrera! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
8 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Break Arm! The judges for this bout are Trevor Gratis, Robert Douchet and William Peck.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Barrera with a hook. Some bone on bone action there as Arm checks a low kick. Luckily it wasn't a particularly hard one. Barrera scores with a jab to the jaw. Barrera shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat. We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace. Barrera got a little sloppy there for a moment and Arm has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Barrera has managed to get both his arms back between Arm's legs - danger averted. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Arm had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Barrera defends it easily. We've been hearing that Barrera has been drilling a lot of ground and pound in training, so let's see if he get the finish. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Barrera looking to pass the guard. Barrera is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there. Barrera avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Barrera drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Barrera jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position. The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Barrera tries to stand but Arm is controlling from the bottom. Arm had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Barrera defends it easily.
That's one minute gone in the round. Barrera trying to control but Arm is working from the bottom. Barrera passes Arm's right leg, so he's now in half guard. Barrera maintaining the dominant position here and is working for a kimura. He's locked it up! Arm could be in real trouble here! He's trying to wriggle out but Barrera has cracked it and Arm is screaming in pain - he's tapped out! Great finish by Barrera!
