Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
4 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Roy Nelson! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
8 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Fenix Espada! The judges for this bout are Stewart Dunkirk, Frank Dennis and Tiny Johnson.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Espada tries to clinch but Nelson is having none of it. Nelson swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Espada throws a wild body kick that Nelson sees coming a mile off. Nelson misses with a combination
and Espada counters with a nice leg kick. Nelson takes a kick to the side of the head.
It looks like Roy Nelson has been cut. This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Nelson avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Espada moves into range and clinches up with Nelson. Nelson avoiding damage.
Nelson struggles to land a body shot inside as Espada controls his hands.
Espada lands a glancing elbow in the clinch. Espada using the Thai plumb to throw knees but Nelson has his back arched nicely, preventing the strike.

Espada tries to land a knee to the head but misses.
Espada gets an overhook and lands an elbow to the side of the head. A real battle for position is taking place between these two warriors. Nelson can't break the clinch.
That's one minute gone in the round. Espada keeps control of Nelson as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks. With the fighters up against the cage, Espada throws an elbow but misses. Espada using the Thai plumb to throw knees but Nelson has his back arched nicely, preventing the strike.
Espada is trying to wear down his opponent with knees to the body. Both fighters working to control the clinch. Espada connects with a knee to the head.
Nelson breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat. Nelson waving his hands out in front of him, looking to distract Espada. Espada tries a low kick but Nelson avoids it. Nelson throws a hook but Espada avoids it easily. Espada bobs and weaves and then throws a good body kick. A slapping leg kick lands for Espada.
Nelson is looking light on his feet compared to last time was saw him fight. Nelson is breathing heavily. Espada slips under a jab. Nelson swings wildly with a couple of big hooks
and Espada connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.
Roy Nelson's cut is bleeding quite badly. He's got to try and protect it. The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Espada fakes a jab and throws a low kick but Nelson checks it well. Espada misses with a straight left. Nelson checks the leg kick nicely there.

That's two minutes gone in the round. Espada misses with a head kick.
A jab from Nelson does it's job there. Espada gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here. Nelson is looking to break free of the clinch but Espada has double underhooks. Nelson working hard to break the clinch. Knees to the body from Espada.

Espada lands an elbow inside that Nelson shrugs off. Good anti-grappling being displayed by Espada as Nelson tries to tie him up. Espada throws a vicious knee straight up the middle but Nelson blocks it with crossed arms. Nelson wants to break free but Espada has control.

Jeez, Roy Nelson's cut is really nasty now. The referee must be thinking about getting that checked. Espada tries to land a knee to the head but Nelson blocks with his arms.

The referee calls the doctor in to look at Roy Nelson's cut. Oh no, the doctor has called an end to the bout!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:56 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Cut). Fenix Espada! An out of breath Fenix Espada thanked his loyal fans in his post fight interview, giving them credit for his success over the course of his career.
