PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Castiel Angel (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Kenta Kobashi (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Angel kept the crowd waiting but all that was forgotten when his ring entrance music started. The incomparable musical genius that is Carry on my wayward son. Kobashi has chosen DJ Krush - Kemuri as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 14 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Castiel Angel!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 14 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Kenta Kobashi!
The judges for this bout are James Glass, Daniel Bishop and Chris Edwards.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Kobashi throws a leg kick but he was too far away and it doesn't land.
Kobashi looking to take his opponent's legs away with the low kicks.
Kobashi steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Angel.
Angel tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Kobashi was well out of range. Poor timing from Angel.
Kobashi has been working on his striking defense in training and it's paying off as Angel is landing a low percentage of strikes.
Kobashi moves his head to the side to avoid a jab but walks straight into a cross.
A decent looking cross lands there for Kobashi.
Kobashi is looking to clinch.
Angel throws a body kick but he wasn't in range.
Kobashi shapes like he's going to throw a leg kick but settles back down.
A decent looking body kick lands there for Angel.
Kobashi lands a jab to Angel's midsection.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Angel shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Kobashi's guard.
The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.

Kobashi is trying to keep Angel in close.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Angel postures up in Kobashi's guard and throws a big left but Kobashi blocks it.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Kobashi is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Angel seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.

Kobashi is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Angel is not content to let Kobashi control the position.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.
Like a baseball bat into the meat of his leg there - nice leg kick by Kobashi.
Kobashi feints and then cracks Angel's leading leg with a nice low kick. He's obviously looking to slow Angel down.

A slapping body kick lands there for Angel.
Kenta Kobashi is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Kobashi takes a shot right to the liver - Bas would have been proud of that punch.
Kobashi throws a leg kick but Angel moved away.
Kobashi throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Angel throws a lazy uppercut
and Kobashi makes the exchange count by landing a cracking kick to the body. Angel really felt that one!
Kobashi scores with a punch to the gut of his opponent.
Angel throws a sloppy head kick and Kobashi moves out of range easily.

Angel scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Angel working the ground and pound but he's contacting the mat, not the fighter.
Angel lands a knee to the body and follows it up with some ground and pound to the head. That will wear Kobashi down.

Kobashi is sneaking out the side here. He's bucked Angel off and has taken his back!
Angel is very frustrated here, being controlled quite effectively by Kobashi.
Angel breaks Kobashi's hooks off and manages to turn into his guard.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Hammerfist, elbow! yells Angel's corner. There ya go! There ya go!

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


Angel shoots in for a double leg but Kobashi sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.

Angel will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Angel throws a head kick but Kobashi moves out of range.
Kobashi uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Angel.

Angel takes one on the chin but keeps coming.
Kobashi looks to land a body kick but Angel moved away.
Kobashi with a nice looking leg kick. You could hear that one land in a back row.
Angel throws a head kick that Kobashi semi-blocks.
Angel fails with a takedown attempt.
That's a knee to de groin and it's over and out! Angel crumples to the ground after an illegal strike from Kobashi - the referee stops the clock and Angel gets 5 minutes to recover from that one. "I'm sorry" says Kobashi. Angel manages to get back to his feet and the fight resumes.

Kobashi swings for the body but Angel moves out of range.
Kobashi cracks the inside of Angel's front leg.

Kobashi dodges the punch combination from Angel.
Angel chopped to the floor by a nice leg kick but he springs right back up before Kobashi can pounce on him.

Kobashi slips under a jab.
Kenta Kobashi seems to be getting the better of the standup.
Kobashi throws a leg kick which misses Angel's front leg but catches the back leg as Angel tries to avoid it.
Angel connects with a crisp jab.

Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Angel looks for a takedown but Kobashi sprawls well.

Kobashi throws a solid leg kick but Angel takes the impact on his shin and smiles at Kobashi.

Angel pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Angel ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Kobashi moves away.

Angel scores with a nice one two combo and darts back out of range to avoid anything coming in the opposite direction.
Angel throws a front kick that sends Kobashi stumbling back into the cage.
Angel throws a chopping leg kick but Kobashi manages to avoid taking any serious damage.
Angel pivots as if he's going to throw a leg kick but stops half way.

A kick lands to the mid section there for Kobashi.

Kobashi throws a body kick but he was well out of range there.
Kobashi lands with an uppercut that bounces Angel off the cage and back into range.
Angel throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Kobashi's waist but Kobashi gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Angel off to one side.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Kobashi explodes with a nice body kick and back out of range. Nice work.
Boom, another hit is landed. "You're gunna get knocked out" taunts Kobashi, as that shot connected.
Angel throws out a loose jab but Kobashi uses good head movement to avoid it.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Angel takes a body kick right on the floating rib. Ouchie.

Kobashi digs a good body shot into Angel's ribs.

Angel has his head snapped back a nice jab. A little nod from Angel there as he acknowledges the shot.

Ouch! a nice leg kick from Kobashi, right into the meat.
Angel will be looking to protect his midsection after taking some solid kicks to the body.
Kobashi darts in and out, connecting with a jab.
Kobashi connects with a leg kick. He turned his hip over nicely there.
Kobashi scores with a sloppy punch to the body. Not much technique there but it did the business.

Angel has his head snapped back a nice jab. A little nod from Angel there as he acknowledges the shot.
Kobashi throws a head kick that misses.
Angel is on the wrong end of a nice combination from Kobashi.
Angel has a takedown stuffed.

Kobashi drives through and clinches with Angel against the cage.

Kobashi escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Kobashi bobbing and weaving, closes the distance and lands a hook to the side of Angel's head.
Angel throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Kobashi cracks Angel with a good shot that sees him stumbling back into the cage.
Kobashi scores with a punch to the gut of his opponent.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Nice takedown defense from Kobashi. No joy for Angel on that attempt.

In his post fight interview, Kenta Kobashi started talking himself up. Luckily his charisma kept the crowd on side and gave him a good reception.
