Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Jake The Snake (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Steve Tompkins (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The crowd seem to be enjoying Tompkins's choice of entrance music: Dying Fetus - One Shot, One Kill. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

With a record of 15 - 12 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Steve Tompkins!
The judges for this bout are Donatello Bradman, Damien Edna and Hugh Johnson.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
The Snake dodges the punch combination from Tompkins.
Tompkins fakes with the hands and throws a leg kick but The Snake is out of range.

The Snake lands a left and a right that send Tompkins crashing to the mat, dazed. The Snake thinks about following him to the mat but decides to wave him back up to his feet!


It looks like Steve Tompkins has been cut.
This has been an exciting period of action!

Tompkins decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
Tompkins thows a huge punch but The Snake dodges it nicely.
Tompkins is thwarting The Snake's attempts to control the position.
The Snake is holding on to half guard well.
The Snake wants to improve his position but Tompkins is controlling well.
Tompkins throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.

We've been hearing good reports from The Snake's training camp. Apparently he has been rolling around with some good quality BJJ practitioners and has been sharpening his skills. Let's see if that has an impact on the fight today.
The Snake might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

Tompkins has his foot on The Snake's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. The Snake works his way back into a safe position though.

The Snake seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Tompkins does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

Tompkins dives in for a single leg takedown but The Snake sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the ropes.

Tompkins fakes high and swings low for a body shot but The Snake manages to avoid it.
The Snake misses with a wild body shot.
Tompkins closes the distance and clinches up with The Snake, looking for a takedown. Tompkins pushes The Snake against the ropes but The Snake circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Jake The Snake has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Steve Tompkins.

The Snake lands a nice hook to Tompkins's body. Tompkins takes it in his stride and looks to land his own strikes.

Tompkins misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
The Snake fakes and then throws a beautiful body shot. Tompkins looks a bit winded and takes a step backwards to take a breath.

The Snake misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Tompkins.
The Snake takes a swing at Tompkins's ribcage but misses.
The Snake scores with a jab to the jaw.
The Snake thuds a left hand into Tompkins's body.
The Snake drops Tompkins with a straight left! Oh this is bad for Tompkins! The Snake dives in and starts dropping bombs - the referee has no choice but to step in and save him!
