Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Todd Valentine! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Dustin Clare! The judges for this bout are Luis Engracia, Matheus Silva and Thiago Cunha.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Clare shoots for a takedown but Valentine saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily. Clare fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt. Valentine shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it. Clare goes for a double leg but Valentine avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Valentine continues to drive forward. Todd Valentine has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Dustin Clare. Clare is working on a leg, looking for a takedown but Valentine is defending well. Valentine gets double underhooks to prevent a takedown attempt from Clare.
Clare drops down for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Clare wants to take the fight to the mat but Valentine manages to get underhooks and keep the fight in the clinch. Valentine looking for a takedown. Clare has Valentine pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Valentine manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.
That's one minute gone in the round. Valentine breaks from the clinch.
Clare misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out. Clare fails with the takedown. Clare looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily. Clare closes the distance and clinches up with Valentine, looking for a takedown. Clare pushes Valentine against the cage but Valentine circles to the side and manages to break the clinch. Valentine gets in close and instigates a clinch. Valentine jumps into guard, dragging Clare to the mat.
Clare looking to pass the guard. Clare is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Valentine is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Valentine has escaped and now he's on top! Valentine trying to control the position from guard on top but Clare is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Valentine has a momentary lapse of concentration, allowing Clare to throw up a leg and lock on what appears to be a pretty tight triangle! Valentine is fighting it off but it's all too little too late - Clare pulls down on the head and he's put Valentine to sleep! This one is all over!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:35 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Triangle). Dustin Clare! Our winner, Dustin Clare, made sure he spent some time buttering up the crowd during his post fight interview, which will no doubt bring him a few more fans.
