Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 6 - 1, fighting out of Hilo, Paddy Putting!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 6 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Paco Mendez!
The judges for this bout are Josh West, Chris Saunders and Jeff Smith.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Putting fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Mendez manages to avoid it.
Mendez misses with a double jab.
Putting throws a poor cross that misses

so Mendez counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.
Mendez working some strikes from top position.
Mendez in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.
Mendez throws a big right hand that misses.
Mendez loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
Mendez has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
Mendez sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Putting's guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Mendez slows the pace down in half guard.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Putting keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Mendez content to control rather than advance.
Mendez looks to land a strike but Putting avoids it nicely and regains full guard.
Mendez is looking to work some ground and pound but Putting has wrist control.
Mendez controls from within his opponent's guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Mendez is pushing down on Putting's leg trying to pass to half guard. Putting is fighting to maintain full guard but Mendez has managed to sneak the leg through.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Mendez not doing much here.

Mendez is working for a submission here. He's got hold of the far side arm and he's looking for a kimura. He's cranking on the arm and he's got it! Putting is tapping out! Ouch, that looked like it hurt!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:33 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Paco Mendez!
In his post fight interview, Paco Mendez started talking himself up. Luckily his charisma kept the crowd on side and gave him a good reception.
