Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Jerald Davidson! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, John Meyner ! The judges for this bout are Timothy Bukovac, Jack Bonds and Don Winkell.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Meyner closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Meyner lands in his opponent's guard. Davidson is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Meyner is controlling him. Meyner drops back looking for a leg! Davidson is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Davidson manages to kick Meyner off! Meyner jumps back into Davidson's guard. Davidson looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Davidson is looking for a triangle but Meyner pushes his legs off easily.
Meyner slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up. Meyner would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard. Davidson has his foot on Meyner 's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Meyner works his way back into a safe position though. Davidson might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground. Davidson is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Meyner is aware though and is defending well.
That's one minute gone in the round. Davidson keeping moving, preventing Meyner from controlling successfully. Hammerfist, elbow! yells Meyner 's corner. There ya go! There ya go! Meyner throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent. Meyner stands and throws Davidson's legs to the side, diving into side control. Meyner working away. Meyner trying to control the action but Davidson is working from the bottom. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Meyner is working for what looks like an arm triangle here. Davidson is trying to escape and Meyner transitions quickly into an armbar! He's slapped it on tight and Davidson is forced to tap! Nice work there by Meyner ! Very nice indeed!
