PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Melvin Reem (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Alan Sharpe (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Reem comes to the cage accompanied by Fabolous - My Time ft. Jeremih. Sharpe is bobbing his head along to his entrance song: Fleetwood Mac - Albatross. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 7 - 3 - 0, fighting out of London, Melvin Reem!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 8 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Alan Sharpe!
The judges for this bout are Phil Schofield, James Ackerman and James Glass.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Reem missing with a left hand there. Sharpe was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one.
Reem slips a straight right by Sharpe.

Sharpe shoots in for a takedown and gets it.
The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.
Sharpe seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Reem does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
Reem trying to control but Sharpe postures up.
Reem on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Reem tries to get out of the position.
Sharpe wants to pass to mount but Reem is defending the position.
Reem wants to control but Sharpe is keeping busy.
Sharpe is just content to waste time from the top position. Reem takes advantage of the situation and regains full guard.

Reem is trying to keep Sharpe in close.
Sharpe wants to control from the top but Reem keeps moving.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Sharpe scoring with some ground and pound.
Sharpe trying to control but Reem is working from the bottom.
Sharpe is stalling in the full guard.

Sharpe tries to free his leg and advance position but Reem is retaining full guard.
Sharpe cracks Reem with a solid left hand.
Sharpe is pushing down on Reem's leg trying to pass to half guard. Reem is fighting to maintain full guard but Sharpe has managed to sneak the leg through.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Sharpe wants to free his trapped foot but Reem is holding on for dear life with his legs.
Reem is looking to improve his position.
Reem is looking to control Sharpe's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Reem avoid being mounted?

Sharpe missing with the ground and pound from half guard.
Sharpe is trying to control. Reem wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.
Reem trying to hold on to Sharpe's head to control him but Sharpe postures up.
Reem is refusing to be controlled, as Sharpe sits in half guard.
Sharpe tries to pass the half guard into mount. Reem knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.

The ref stands the fighters back up, due to lack of action by Alan Sharpe.
Sharpe misses with a lunging right hand
and Reem counters with a leg kick that reverborates around the arena.
Sharpe uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Reem.
A swing and a miss from Sharpe.
Reem throws a leg kick but Sharpe sees it coming and checks it nicely.

Sharpe closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
Sharpe wants to lay and pray for a moment but Reem keeps working.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Reem is defending against the submission attempts here by Sharpe.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Alan Sharpe dominated that round.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!


Sharpe goes for a double leg but Reem avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Reem continues to drive forward.
Reem will no doubt start fighting again in a minute but for now he's just having a little rest, leaning Sharpe up against the cage.
Reem is trying to push Sharpe away but Sharpe has him pressed against the cage, so he's going nowhere.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Sharpe is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Reem pulls him back up using the underhooks.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Reem lands on the inside with an uppercut.
Reem misses with a shot to the kidneys.

Reem breaks the clinch.
Sharpe shoots in for a double leg but Reem sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
Melvin Reem has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Alan Sharpe.

Sharpe fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Reem to the ground. Sharpe is now in Reem's guard.
Sharpe trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Sharpe trying to control the position from guard on top but Reem is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Reem knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Sharpe on the ground.
Alan Sharpe has got the better of the ground game so far.

Sharpe postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Sharpe wants to control from the top but Reem keeps moving.
The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.
Sharpe lands a couple of decent looking shots.
Reem looking to control.
Sharpe works over Reem with some ground and pound from guard.

The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Sharpe drops back, looking for a kneebar! Reem looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Reem looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Reem!
Sharpe is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard.
Sharpe regains full guard. Nicely done.

Sharpe has his foot on Reem's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Reem works his way back into a safe position though.
Reem has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.

Sharpe has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Reem can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
Reem wants to control from the top but Sharpe keeps moving.

Sharpe looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
Sharpe keeps trying to improve his position.

Sharpe looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Sharpe trying to keep a closed guard but Reem is proving a slippery customer.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Alan Sharpe showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's time! Reem's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. This is the final round!


Reem ducks under a wild hook from Sharpe.
Reem misses the jab.
Sharpe misses with a looping left.
Reem jabs away that one connects to the head of his opponent.
Reem scores with a reasonable looking shot to the body. Sharpe doesn't seem bothered though.
The fighters circling - Sharpe throws out the jab but it was never going to land.
Sharpe looks for a takedown but Reem sprawls well.

Sharpe throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Reem sees it coming and avoids it easily.
Reem swings away with a body shot that misses

and Sharpe counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
Sharpe throws a strike but Reem rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.

Sharpe lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Reem!
Sharpe is in the full mount, landing strikes.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Sharpe throws an elbow from mount that misses. Lucky escape for Reem because Sharpe loaded up on that one.
Reem in a bad spot here, taking shots to the head.

Sharpe lands a shot to the body, followed up by a shot to the exposed head of his trapped opponent.

Sharpe wants to control the pace but Reem is squirming around nicely.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Sharpe tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.
Reem wriggling around on the bottom manages to avoid the strikes thrown by Sharpe.
Melvin Reem has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Alan Sharpe is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.
Sharpe tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.
Reem is wriggling around trying to escape.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

I've got Sharpe winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
