PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Shang Chi (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Reggie Warren (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The crowd seem to be enjoying Warren's choice of entrance music: God's gonna cut you down by Jonny Cash. Well, I have no idea who's going to take this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 17 - 7 - 0, fighting out of London, Shang Chi!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 23 - 16 - 1, fighting out of New York, Reggie Warren!
The judges for this bout are Tatsuya Matsuyama, Shigeki Fujiwara and Taro Takaoka.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Chi throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Chi fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Warren manages to avoid it.
Chi shapes like he's going to throw a leg kick but settles back down.
Chi tries to land a leg kick but Warren saw it coming and moves away.
Warren lands a jab.
Chi throws a combination that misses
and Warren counters with a lovely straight right hand!
Warren shuffles to his left behind two crisp jabs. Chi eats them both and turns towards Warren to reposition himself and eats a stinging right hand-left hook combo.
Warren takes one on the chin but seems OK.
Chi tries a head kick but it misses.
Shang Chi seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Chi scores with a sloppy right hand. Warren should have avoided that one.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Chi darts in and out, connecting with a jab.
Warren blocks a jab.
Warren misses with a body kick.
Chi misses with a leg kick

and Warren counters with a takedown into side control.

Chi sneaks back into half guard.
Warren is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen.
Warren has been taking part in the yoga sessions down at Sheep Shaggers of Aberdeen. Presumably he's going to look for a slick submission... Or maybe he's looking to avoid one.
Warren is thwarting Chi's attempts to control the position.

Warren is trying to control. Chi wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.
Chi looks to be in better condition than last time we saw him fight. Obviously he's been working hard on his cardio.

Let's hope that Warren has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.

Reggie Warren has forced the referee to step in and restart the fight on the feet.
Chi throws a leg kick that misses.
Chi turns his hip over beautifully as he lands a nice leg kick.
Warren lands a jab to Chi's midsection.
Chi dips down and scores with a jab to the body.

and Warren counters with a lovely shot to the body.
Shang Chi is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Chi tries a head kick but it misses.
Warren displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Chi throws out the jab.
Chi doesn't manage to clinch there - Warren circles away.
Ouch! a nice leg kick from Chi, right into the meat.
Warren misses with a kick to the body.
Chi scores with a reasonable looking shot to the body. Warren doesn't seem bothered though.
Crunch! Chi slams his shin into Warren's torso.
Chi thows a body shot but no joy.
Chi throws a leg kick
and Warren counters with a right hand to the body.

and Warren counters with a takedown into side control! That could mean trouble for Chi!
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Chi managing to avoid any damage from the strikes thrown by Warren.
Warren trying to control the position but Chi is working away.
Warren misses with an attempted head punch from side control.
Warren landing strikes.
Chi tries to get back to half guard but can't.

The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Reggie Warren dominated that round.
That's time! Chi's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.


The fighters are starting to get sweaty, which will make takedowns a bit more tricky.
Chi connects with a leg kick. He turned his hip over nicely there.
Warren lands with a cross to side of his opponent's head.
That kick from Chi tenderised Warren's leg. Warren is trying to keep his angry face on.
Chi throws a looping overhand right but Warren ducks down to avoid it.

Chi walks into a straight right hand from Warren.
Chi tries to land a leg kick but Warren saw it coming and moves away.
Warren misses with an uppercut.
Warren lands a slapping body shot.

and Warren counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.
Reggie Warren has got the better of the ground game so far.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Chi is looking to control Warren's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Chi avoid being mounted?
Warren is looking to take a break and control but Chi is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Chi manages to get to full guard.
Warren has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
Warren wants to control from the top but Chi keeps moving.
Chi manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Warren manages to get himself to full guard.
Chi has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Warren is proving hard to escape from.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.

The ref stands the fighters back up, due to lack of action by Reggie Warren.
Warren swings for the body but Chi moves out of range.
Chi dips to his left and cracks Warren with an uppercut!
Chi tries to clinch up but Warren circles away and keeps his distance.
Warren avoids a kick to the body.
Chi throws out a leg kick but Warren moves out of range and Chi only half commits.
Chi lands with a hook. Warren tried to avoid it but it clipped the top of his head.

Chi gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Warren to score an easy takedown into full guard.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Warren trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Warren trying to control the position from guard on top but Chi is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Warren cracks Chi with a solid left hand.
Warren stays in close to Chi's body and controls the position.
Chi looking for a sweep. Not yet Chi, not yet.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Chi keeping moving, preventing Warren from controlling successfully.

The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Reggie Warren wasn't active enough on the ground.
Chi slips under a jab.
Chi swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Chi takes a swing at Warren's ribcage but misses.
Chi does a little shimmy and throws a leg kick. The leg kick missed by a considerable margin though, making him look a little bit silly for doing the shimmy.
Chi tries to clinch up.

Warren shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Chi is trying to defend but Warren finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.
Warren is taking a breather. Chi says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Reggie Warren showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. This is the final round!


Chi scores with a reasonable looking shot to the body. Warren doesn't seem bothered though.
Warren shoots in looking for a takedown. Chi tries to sprawl out of it but Warren keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Chi manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Chi throws a nice inside leg kick.
Chi misses with an uppercut. Warren saw that one coming.
Warren misses with a body shot.
A low kick from Warren misses
and Chi makes him pay by landing a thudding low kick.
A punch lands to the side of Warren 's head but he takes it in his stride.
Ouch! a nice leg kick from Chi, right into the meat.
Warren's leg has a nasty welt from taking a succession of leg kicks. That must be slowing him down.
Chi throws a low kick but his opponent is out of range.
Chi buckles his opponent's knee momentarily with a nice leg kick.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
BOOM! Chi lands a beautiful left hook that drops Warren. Warren tries to recover but Chi is having none of it, landing more punishing shots from mount. One final crushing shot and Warren lies motionless on the canvas. The fight is over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:56 of round 3, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Shang Chi!
