6 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Leo Bambaleo Jr! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Chris Griffin! The judges for this bout are Paul Tew, Colin Fotheringham and James Glass.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Griffin is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Bambaleo Jr. Bambaleo Jr swinging wildly here.
Bambaleo Jr tries to clinch up but Griffin circles away and keeps his distance. Bambaleo Jr is pinned up against the cage taking some big shots here. The referee is looking closely deciding whether he should stop the fight.
Nice body punch from Bambaleo Jr. Griffin moves away from the strike by Bambaleo Jr. Griffin cracks Bambaleo Jr with a good shot that sees him stumbling back into the cage. Bambaleo Jr looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily. Griffin displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Bambaleo Jr throws out the jab. We've been hearing reports that Bambaleo Jr has been drilling takedowns in recent sessions so let's see if that has an impact on the result of this fight. Bambaleo Jr uses good footwork to get in and out and land a nice right hand before Griffin has time to react. Nice shot by Griffin. Bambaleo Jr misses with a wild body shot. Griffin throws a looping overhand right but Bambaleo Jr ducks down to avoid it. Griffin scores with a push kick. The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! Bambaleo Jr fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Griffin avoids it really well and circles away. Bambaleo Jr misses the jab.
That's one minute gone in the round. Griffin throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Bambaleo Jr was covering up waiting for the punch and Griffin finishes the takedown easily into guard. If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup. Bambaleo Jr is trying to control the position but Griffin postures up. Griffin scoring with some ground and pound. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Griffin content to strike from guard, landing some decent shots. Griffin wants to control from the top but Bambaleo Jr keeps moving. Bambaleo Jr had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Griffin defends it easily. Bambaleo Jr utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Griffin avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Bambaleo Jr wants to sweep but no luck. Griffin scoring with some ground and pound. Bambaleo Jr working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Griffin. Bambaleo Jr preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage. Bambaleo Jr looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Bambaleo Jr tries to land a sweep but no joy. Griffin loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry. Bambaleo Jr utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound. Griffin must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu. Griffin trying to control the position from guard on top but Bambaleo Jr is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Bambaleo Jr has momentary wrist control but Griffin slips an elbow through the middle.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Griffin with a couple of shots to the head there. Not particularly brutal. Griffin throwing strikes from guard but Bambaleo Jr blocks nicely. Bambaleo Jr looking for a guillotine here but Griffin defends easily.
Griffin stands up over Bambaleo Jr, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head. Griffin slips nicely into half guard. Bambaleo Jr moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard. Griffin got a little sloppy there for a moment and Bambaleo Jr has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Griffin has managed to get both his arms back between Bambaleo Jr's legs - danger averted. Griffin scoring with punches to the head and body. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Griffin with a flurry of punches that miss. Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Griffin stands up over Bambaleo Jr, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head. Griffin wants to pass the guard but Bambaleo Jr is keeping the position. Griffin working some strikes from top position. Griffin wants to control from the top but Bambaleo Jr keeps moving. Hammerfist, elbow! yells Griffin's corner. There ya go! There ya go! Griffin lands a couple of digs. Griffin postures up in Bambaleo Jr's guard and throws a big left but Bambaleo Jr blocks it. The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action! Griffin throws a big right hand that misses. Griffin throws a big right hand that misses. Griffin postures up and lands some nice ground and pound.
Bambaleo Jr is rocked! Griffin is fighting to break Bambaleo Jr's control of his arms but Bambaleo Jr is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Chris Griffin dominated that round. The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.
Bambaleo Jr shoots in but Griffin avoids the takedown attempt easily. Griffin throws a quick inside leg kick. A decent looking cross lands there for Griffin. Like a baseball bat into the meat of his leg there - nice leg kick by Griffin.
Griffin connects with a crisp jab. Griffin lands a beauty of a right hand that gets the crowd cheering.
Oh Bambaleo Jr is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!! Griffin tries to land a front kick but Bambaleo Jr steps back. That was a bit too telegraphed. Griffin pushes Bambaleo Jr away with a front kick. Some wild striking there from Bambaleo Jr.
Griffin throws a monster overhand right that drops Bambaleo Jr! Griffin follows up with more strikes from mount and the fight is all over!
