Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Fabio Jones (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ai Za (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Jones comes to the ring accompanied by Life Goes On. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 26 - 20 - 1, fighting out of Sydney, Fabio Jones!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 15 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Ai Za!
The judges for this bout are Donald Grub, James Atkins and Paul Tew.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Jones shoots in for a takedown and gets it.
Jones is pressing down on Za's thigh, looking to free his foot. Za is holding on for now.
Jones is trying to control. Za wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.
Za wants to improve his position but Jones is controlling well.

Jones is trying to work for a kimura but Za is defending well.
Za felt the need to train up his defensive grappling in the buildup to the fight. Presumably he was expecting to be in a difficult position like this, so let's see if he can get out of it.

Za looking for submissions off his back.
The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring.

Jones is looking for a kimura but Za is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Jones to get the leverage.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Za makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Za.
Jones looking to pass the guard.
Za has Jones pulled in close to control his posture.
Jones wants to control from the top but Za keeps moving.

Jones has gone for a leg lock! Za slips out almost immediately though and dives into Jones's guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Za is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
Za pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Jones is keeping the position for now.
We've been hearing good reports from Jones's training camp. Apparently he has been rolling around with some good quality BJJ practitioners and has been sharpening his skills. Let's see if that has an impact on the fight today.
Za preventing the sweep.
Za wants to control from the top but Jones keeps moving.
Za tries to free his leg and advance position but Jones is retaining full guard.
Jones tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Za trying to control but Jones is working from the bottom.
Jones looking to hit a scissor sweep but Za is one step ahead there.

Jones isolates an arm and boxes in a triangle. Za stacks Jones on his neck as he steps over and passes to the side. He's now in a much more dominant position where he can look to do some serious damage. Nice move by Za!
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Jones is sneaking out the side here. He's bucked Za off and has taken his back!

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Jones looking to break Za's wrist control so he can sink in the choke. Za remaining controlled and patient though - he really has to keep calm otherwise Jones will wrap this one up with the rear naked choke!

Jones is looking for a choke. Za gets to his feet with his opponent on his back and slams him to the mat. Za manages to squirm out of the attempted choke and turns into his opponent's guard.
Jones keeping full guard, as Za tries to pass.
Za controls from within his opponent's guard.
Za slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.

Za wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Jones, who protects the arm well.

Za looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything.
The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Jones manages to get back to half guard.
Jones makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Jones.
Jones manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Za is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.

Jones goes for an armbar but he's not got it… Za turns into him and now he's in Jones's guard.

Jones looking for a guillotine here but Za defends easily.

That's five minutes gone in the round.
Za forces his way into half guard.
Jones is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Za's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Za's back!

Jones looking to finish the fight with a rear naked choke. Za is controlling Jones 's left arm and he spins nicely into guard.
Za trying to control but Jones is working from the bottom.
Za tries to free his leg and advance position but Jones is retaining full guard.
Za trying to control the position from guard on top but Jones is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Za is posturing up here but Jones has hold of an arm and he's gone for an armbar! Za tries to roll out but it's too tight and Za has to tap! Slick submission there by Jones!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 6:57 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Fabio Jones!
Fabio Jones gave a mention to Merciless Gladiators in his post fight interview. That will please them (and hopefully generate some sales).
