Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Chester Calderon! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Joe Boxer! The judges for this bout are Columbo Gatti, Chad Campbell and Joseph Jones.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Boxer shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Calderon's guard. We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace. Boxer postures up.
Calderon keeping moving, preventing Boxer from controlling successfully. Boxer throwing strikes but missing. Boxer wants to control from the top but Calderon keeps moving. Boxer stops Calderon from standing up. Calderon is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up. Boxer shoots in for a takedown but Calderon shows good takedown defense. Calderon tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion. Calderon fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
That's one minute gone in the round. Boxer shoots and misses and Calderon counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Calderon. Boxer has managed to wall walk up one of the corner posts to get back to his feet. Calderon is pushing him up against the cage, looking to control the position. Boxer keeps the fight in the clinch, despite Calderon's efforts to push away. Calderon misses with a punch to the body.
Calderon really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape. Boxer gets underhooks to prevent Calderon's takedown attempt.
Calderon jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Boxer walks away with a smile on his face. Calderon gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Chester Calderon. That's going to take a lot out of him. Boxer fails with an attempt to clinch.

Calderon is looking to clinch. Boxer wants to clinch up but Calderon keeps it at a distance. Boxer shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Calderon sprawls well. Calderon wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Boxer gets slowly back to his feet. The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! Boxer tries to clinch but Calderon is having none of it.

Calderon doesn't manage to clinch there - Boxer circles away.
Boxer closes the distance and pushes Calderon back into the cage. Boxer can't break the clinch.
A battle for position here, against the cage. Calderon has Boxer pressed against the cage.
Boxer is trying to pull guard but Calderon turns him against the cage and we stay in the clinch.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Boxer decides to pull guard. Boxer has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan. Calderon is working Boxer over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes. Boxer is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move. Boxer prevents Calderon from improving his position. Boxer is keen to just control but Calderon is a slippery customer. Boxer trying to pass the guard but Calderon defending well. Calderon trying to hold on to Boxer's head to control him but Boxer postures up.
Calderon on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Calderon tries to get out of the position.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Boxer is pressing down on Calderon's thigh, looking to free his foot. Calderon is holding on for now. Calderon tries to roll over but Boxer keeps him under control. Boxer escapes and gets back to his feet. Boxer fakes a head punch and goes low to the body. Nicely done. Calderon shoots in looking for a takedown. Boxer tries to sprawl out of it but Calderon keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Boxer manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing. As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Boxer misses with a takedown attempt and Calderon counters with a two punch combo. Calderon is breathing heavily. This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Boxer fails with an attempt to clinch.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
A close round but Joe Boxer will probably get the nod. OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.
Boxer shoots in but Calderon avoids the takedown attempt easily. Boxer tries to clinch up. Boxer moves into range and throws a combination. A nice jab followed by a hook to the body.
It looks like Chester Calderon has been cut. Boxer stuffs the takedown attempt from Calderon. Calderon gets slowly back to his feet. Boxer gets in close and instigates a clinch. Calderon goes for a takedown in the clinch but Boxer prevents it.
Boxer tries to pull guard but Calderon forces him back to his feet, against the cage. Calderon is trying to pull guard but Boxer turns him against the cage and we stay in the clinch. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Chester Calderon. That's going to take a lot out of him. Calderon is working on a leg, looking for a takedown but Boxer is defending well. Boxer is working for takedown but Calderon is calmly controlling the position for now.
That's one minute gone in the round. Calderon has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Boxer is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet. Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here. Boxer has Calderon pressed against the cage.

Boxer is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive. Boxer wants to stand up but Calderon is controlling him. Boxer is adopting a defensive guard. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Boxer controls Calderon momentarily but Calderon frees himself.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Boxer is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far. Calderon trying to control but Boxer is working from the bottom.
The ref stands the fighters back up. Chester Calderon wasn't doing enough on the ground. Calderon closes the distance and clinches up with Boxer, looking for a takedown. Calderon pushes Boxer against the cage but Boxer circles to the side and manages to break the clinch. Boxer is looking to take this fight into the clinch. Boxer is trying hard to land a takedown here. Calderon sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet. Calderon falls off balance throwing a combination
and Boxer counters with a nice body shot.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Calderon moves to clinch but Boxer breaks away and Boxer cracks him with a counter punch right on the button. Calderon shoots for a double leg takedown but Boxer sprawls well. He's pushed Calderon's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily. Boxer goes for a double leg but Calderon avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Calderon continues to drive forward. Calderon lands a nice trip takedown into half guard.

Boxer might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Calderon haven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time. Calderon avoids a guillotine attempt easily.

We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon. Boxer is looking to stand up but Calderon isn't so interested in that idea. The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end. Boxer is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent. Boxer has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Joe Boxer showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards. The cut man is working on Chester Calderon's cut. OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. This is the final round!
Calderon loads up on a big right hand but Boxer slips the punch. Calderon shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Boxer as he avoids it easily. Calderon wants to clinch up but Boxer keeps it at a distance. Boxer fails with a takedown attempt from distance. Well, he's not going to score with shots like that. A lazy body kick attempt from Boxer. Calderon shoots in for a takedown but Boxer shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet. Calderon avoids the head kick by Boxer.
Calderon throws a jab but it's blocked by Boxer. Calderon tries to clinch but Boxer is having none of it. Boxer looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Calderon is fending him off so far but Boxer persists. Nope, Calderon circles away and we're back to standing.
That's one minute gone in the round. Boxer shoots in looking for a takedown. Calderon tries to sprawl out of it but Boxer keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Calderon manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing. Chester Calderon has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Joe Boxer. Boxer takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired. Calderon has a takedown stuffed. Calderon is looking to chop away at Boxer's legs. Boxer fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Calderon, pushing him back against the cage. Calderon has dropped down and is working for a takedown. Boxer is trying to keep an underhook but Calderon manages to get the takedown into half guard. Boxer tries to strike from the bottom but it doesn't land. Calderon perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there. Boxer is looking to get back to full guard here but Calderon has managed to pass to side control instead.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Boxer prevents Calderon from moving into mount. Boxer tries to bench press Calderon off him but Calderon keeps the position. Calderon trying to control the action but Boxer is working from the bottom. Boxer wants to control but Calderon postures up. Boxer is trying to get back to half guard. He's pushing on Calderon's leg. He's managed it. Nice work. The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Boxer is trying to maintain the position but Calderon is very close to passing his half guard.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Boxer wants to get back to full guard. Boxer is trying to stand up here but Calderon is controlling him well. Boxer looking for submissions from an awkward position here. Calderon is looking to take a break and control but Boxer is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom. Boxer has hold of Calderon's hands but Calderon slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow. Calderon is looking for a kimura here.

That's four minutes gone in the round. Calderon is keen to just control but Boxer is a slippery customer. Calderon thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Boxer's head. Boxer tries to roll over but Calderon keeps him under control. Calderon stops Boxer from getting back to his feet.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end. Boxer is looking to get full guard. It looks like he might be successful but at the last minute Calderon jumps into side control! Chester Calderon has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here! Joe Boxer is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight. Boxer is looking to work his way out of this bad position but Calderon is controlling him well.
And that's the end of the fight! That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Chester Calderon. Well Boxer has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality.
