Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
2 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Colby Hines! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Ernesto El Angel! The judges for this bout are Daniel Cesar, Thiago Cunha and Leandro Rodrigues.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Hines feints and as El Angel raises his hands in defense, Hines changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard. Hines could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely. Hines is on the wrong end of a couple of strikes there. El Angel wants to hit a switch here but Hines passes into full mount! Oh no, disaster for El Angel there! Hines wants to control the pace but El Angel is squirming around nicely. El Angel really trying hard to get back to half guard here.
Hines manages to capitalize on a mistake by El Angel to take his back! El Angel really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Hines. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. El Angel wants to escape the position.
Hines is looking to control El Angel but El Angel is wriggling around and keeping busy. Hines keeps control of the position easily here as El Angel tries to buck him off.
That's one minute gone in the round. Hines is persistently looking for the submission but El Angel is defending it well.
Even with his hooks in, Hines manages to miss with strikes from the back. Hines is working for the rear naked choke. He has one arm under the chin but El Angel has hold of the other arm. A bit of a stalemate here. Hines controlling well, preventing El Angel from escaping the position.

Hines has the hooks in. El Angel is trying to push off one leg but he has to do so cautiously to avoid being submitted. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
That was a close round but I would say that Colby Hines will probably get the nod. The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!
Hines throws a leg kick but El Angel moved away. El Angel fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Hines, pushing him back against the cage. Hines tries to break free but El Angel pushes him back against the cage. El Angel jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Hines walks away with a smile on his face. El Angel gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head. Hines gets a takedown into half guard. El Angel throws a strike from the bottom but Hines passes into side control!
El Angel is trying to get back to his feet. Hines slips into full mount, dodging the strikes by El Angel. Hines is going oldschool here, as he tries to force El Angel to tap using a forearm choke. This isn't 1993 though, so El Angel shrugs it off. Hines controlling the pace for now.
That's one minute gone in the round. Hines working for a guillotine from mount but El Angel is in no mood to give up. Hines wants to control the pace but El Angel is squirming around nicely. Hines blocks El Angel's feeble attempts to strike from the bottom. El Angel tries to control Hines's body but Hines pushes him off. El Angel squirms to his side and now Hines has his back! El Angel is staying cool under pressure, defending well against the rear naked choke attempt from his opponent.

El Angel is displaying good submission defense - not really looking in danger of submitting to the rear naked choke at the moment. That could change in an instant of course if Hines gets his way!

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. The crowd hopeful of a finish here - Hines's supporters are on their feet, screaming for him to go for the rear naked choke.

Colby Hines dominated that second round. The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.
Hines swats away the attempt to clinch by El Angel. Hines misses with a body kick. El Angel fails miserably with a takedown attempt. El Angel is looking to take this fight into the clinch. El Angel tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Hines defends well and El Angel ends up having to push Hines into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch. El Angel tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Hines just stands there and leans against the cage. Colby Hines has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Ernesto El Angel. Hines has double underhooks and is working for a body lock takedown. He's got it. The fighters land in half guard but El Angel regains guard immediately. Hines drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Hines jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position. El Angel working a defensive guard here.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up. El Angel shoots in looking for a takedown but Hines manages to keep the fight standing, pushing El Angel's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away. El Angel moves into the clinch successfully.

Colby Hines overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far. Hines won't allow El Angel to sweep him here. Hines slips effortlessly into side control - very nice. El Angel is looking for a sweep. Hines wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by El Angel, who protects the arm well. Hines trying to control the action but El Angel is working from the bottom.

And that's the end of the fight! That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Colby Hines. Well I reckon that's a shut out for Hines, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent.
