Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Diego Russell (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Bud Weiser (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The atmosphere really building for this one as we go over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Meet the Future


Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 7 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Diego Russell!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Bud Weiser!
The judges for this bout are Daniel Franklin, Tiny Johnson and Chris Downing.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Weiser pushes Russell up against the cage in a clinch.
Weiser prevents a takedown attempt there.
Russell goes for a takedown attempt but Weiser pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.

Weiser gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here.
Weiser is trying to force a seperation but Russell has the dominant position.
We've been hearing reports that Russell has been drilling takedowns in recent sessions so let's see if that has an impact on the result of this fight.
Russell has dropped down and is looking to force the takedown but it's defended by Weiser after a bit of a struggle.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Diego Russell. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Russell tries for a takedown but Weiser manages to get underhooks.

Russell gets double underhooks and manages to take the fight to the ground.
We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.
Russell slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
Russell stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Weiser swivels though and keeps the full guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Russell is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.

Weiser landing some decent shots from guard.
Weiser working in close now, lands a nice elbow to the side of Russell's head.
Weiser connects with a couple of short punches.
Russell wants to stand up but Weiser is controlling him.
Weiser trying to control but Russell is working from the bottom.
Weiser won't allow Russell to get back to his feet.

The fighters are working up against the cage. Russell manages to wriggle his way back to his feet, so the fighters are now clinched against the cage.
Russell blocks a punch to the side of the head.
Weiser swings away with an uppercut that misses.
Weiser throws a blind hook that connects with the side of Russells head.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Weiser's corner are urging him to control the action in the clinch for a moment, rather than mount any serious offense. I'm sure the crowd appreciate those instructions... not.
Russell blocks a punch to the side of the head.
Russell has dropped down and is looking to force the takedown but it's defended by Weiser after a bit of a struggle.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Weiser misses with a punch on the inside.
Weiser tried to land a shot to the body but connects with Russell's elbow.

Weiser escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Weiser throws a series of punches but Russell moves out of range.

Russell throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Weiser tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Russell is in Weiser's guard.
Russell postures up and lands some nice ground and pound.
Russell is stalling in the full guard.
Weiser can't keep his opponent in guard - Russell advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Russell is trying to control the action in half guard but Weiser is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.
Russell trying to mount his opponent but Weiser defends it.
Russell throws a strike but Weiser avoids it easily and moves to full guard.
Russell controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
Russell wants to control from the top but Weiser keeps moving.
The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.

Russell postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Weiser is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Russell, into his guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Russell is looking to stand up but Weiser isn't so interested in that idea.

Russell has scooted to the edge of the canvas and used the cage to get back to his feet. Weiser has stuck on his opponent and is forcing him back against the cage.

Weiser manages to break the clinch.
Weiser throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Weiser tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Russell paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Russell tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Weiser swivels and escapes.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Weiser lands a jab. Then a cross. Then finally a nice hook to the body. Good work there by Weiser.
Weiser looks winded!
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Russell keeps the fight on the outside.

Russell is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Weiser's half guard.
Russell is pressing down on Weiser's thigh, looking to free his foot. Weiser is holding on for now.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Diego Russell dominated that round.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.

Russell closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Russell lands in his opponent's guard.

Weiser is looking to stand back up... there's a bit of a scramble and Russell dives into side control.
Weiser is breathing heavily.

Russell goes for an armbar here - this could be all over! But no, Weiser has escaped beautifully and is now on top in side control! Oh, that's unlucky for Russell but great work by Weiser.

Russell bucks up and manages to escape back to his feet!

Russell looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.

Russell is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.
Russell has freed up his trapped foot and advances to mount.

Russell lands with some strikes.

Russell is working on an americana here. Ooh, that looks pretty nasty! Nope, Weiser has managed to escape the submission attempt.
Russell lands an elbow that was bordering on illegal but the referee lets it go with a warning.

Weiser is squirming around, avoiding Russell's attempts to control the action.

Russell wants to finish this one by submission but Weiser is holding onto his waist, trying to prevent any attacks from Russell.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Russell jumps to side control looking for an arm triangle but Weiser manages to avoid the submission attempt.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Diego Russell dominated that second round.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! This is the final round!


Russell dodges the punch combination from Weiser.
Russell fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Russell shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Weiser as he jumps to the side.
Weiser tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Russell manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.

Russell fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Weiser sprawls well initially but Russell persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
Russell thows a huge punch but Weiser dodges it nicely.

Russell looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Russell uses his free foot to push down on Weiser's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Weiser.
Weiser takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Russell wants to finish this one by submission but Weiser is holding onto his waist, trying to prevent any attacks from Russell.
Russell lands with some strikes.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Russell fakes a shot to the body and cracks his opponent in the head. Nice ground and pound there!
Russell is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Weiser can do to turn this around?
Russell cracks Weiser with a nasty head shot there - the crowd let out an audible gasp there, as the noise reverberated around the arena.

Weiser is still in real trouble! Can Russell finish him?

Russell has control of Weiser's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and Weiser regains control of the situation pretty easily.
Russell scoring with some good ground and pound from mount here. Will he manage to finish Weiser?
Diego Russell overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Russell has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
