PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Sai Fukuta (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Craig Anderson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The crowd seem to be enjoying Anderson's choice of entrance music: The High Road. Well, the cameraman is lingering on a pretty young lady for a bit too long there. Keep your eyes on the prize buddy or you'll miss the fighter intros!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 11 - 12 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Sai Fukuta!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 10 - 9 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Craig Anderson!
The judges for this bout are Alec Ball, Elvis Blanc and Steve Smith.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Anderson scores with a nice body kick.
Fukuta swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Fukuta throws a jab, cross combination which is slipped
and Anderson counters with a good low kick that Fukuta was not able to check.
Anderson misses with a low kick.
Fukuta misses with a kick to the body.

Anderson shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Fukuta manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.
The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.
Fukuta can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Anderson controls the pace.
Anderson prevents Fukuta from getting back to his feet.
Fukuta wants to get back to his feet but he's too absorbed in his own little project and Anderson manages to pass to side control.
Anderson keeping composed on the top, looking to control the action.

Anderson is looking for a kimura but Fukuta is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Anderson to get the leverage.

Anderson is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Fukuta defends it well.
Fukuta has improved his flexibility recently so we will have to see if he can use that to his advantage.

My spies in Nights Watch MMA Academy inform me that Anderson has been getting involved in the gym's BJJ sparring sessions. Let's see whether that pays dividends!

Anderson has control of Fukuta's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and Fukuta regains control of the situation pretty easily.

Fukuta is staying calm and holding on to the back position, whilst working on a rear naked choke. Anderson is defending well though. Fukuta let's go of the attempt for now.

Fukuta on the receiving end of a decent leg kick there by Anderson. Anderson obviously looking to wear him down.
Fukuta chopped to the floor by a nice leg kick but he springs right back up before Anderson can pounce on him.
Fukuta takes a head kick and keeps coming.


It looks like Sai Fukuta has been cut.
Anderson looks for the body kick but Fukuta saw that one coming.
Fukuta takes a head kick and shrugs it off.

Fukuta moves into range and clinches up with Anderson.
Anderson blocks a knee to the body. He'll have a nicely bruised forearm in the morning.
A frustrated look appears on Fukuta's face as he tries to break the clinch.

Fukuta avoiding damage as Anderson throws knees to the body.

Anderson lands a nice trip takedown into half guard.
Anderson content to sit in half guard and control for a moment.

Fukuta looking to work for a kimura from the bottom.

Anderson is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.
Well, if Anderson is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.
Fukuta tries to kick Anderson off but Anderson keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.

Anderson is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
Anderson perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.
Anderson uses his free foot to push down on Fukuta's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Fukuta.

Anderson is working for a guillotine from mount but Fukuta frees his head quite easily.

Anderson goes for an armbar but he's fallen flat on his backside there and now Fukuta is on top in guard.
Anderson pulls Fukuta in close to prevent any damage.

Anderson is active off his back here, looking for submissions.

Anderson is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Anderson wants to take a breather but Fukuta is having none of it.
Fukuta makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Fukuta.
Anderson is pushing down on Fukuta's leg trying to pass to half guard. Fukuta is fighting to maintain full guard but Anderson has managed to sneak the leg through.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Anderson is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Fukuta sees it coming and defends easily.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Anderson in half guard on the top. He's looking for a kimura... He's got it locked and he's managed to free his trapped foot. Fukuta tries to escape but it's on too tight and he has to tap! Great BJJ skills there from Anderson!
