Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Andrew Holland! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Justin Sepulveda ! The judges for this bout are Aleksandr Martynov, Aleksei Zolotukhin and Vladimir Khabensky.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Sepulveda shoots for a takedown but Holland saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily. Holland tries to sprawl but Sepulveda drives through with a takedown into half guard. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Holland is trying to get back to full guard. Sepulveda trying to control the action but Holland is working from the bottom. Sepulveda is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Holland sees it coming and defends easily. Holland on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Holland tries to get out of the position. Sepulveda is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Holland is just riding it out for now. Sepulveda eventually gives up the hold. Sepulveda seems to be working for a kimura but Holland defends the submission attempt. Still in half guard, Sepulveda seems content to control.
That's one minute gone in the round. Sepulveda trying to control the action but Holland is working from the bottom. Holland is looking for a sweep. Sepulveda is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position. Holland is refusing to be controlled, as Sepulveda sits in half guard. Holland is looking to control Sepulveda 's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Holland avoid being mounted?
The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up. Sepulveda shoots in but Holland avoids the takedown attempt easily. Sepulveda throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Holland's waist but Holland gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Sepulveda off to one side. Andrew Holland has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Justin Sepulveda . Sepulveda on the wrong end of a nice hook.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Holland's corner calls for a 1-2. Holland obliges with the 1 part as he scores the single shot and moves back out of range. Sepulveda fails to land the takedown. Holland leaves Sepulveda with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt. Justin Sepulveda seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Holland darts in and out, connecting with a jab. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Sepulveda takes a jab on the nose there. A little bit of blood seems to be coming out. Hopefully that won't affect his breathing.
Holland lands with a cross to side of his opponent's head. Holland moving in and out of range nicely, whilst landing the scoring shot.
Sepulveda is rocked! Andrew Holland is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs. Holland buckles his opponent's knee momentarily with a nice leg kick.
Holland throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Sepulveda . Sepulveda drops his hands momentarily and Holland takes advantage with a crisp shot to the head. Sepulveda is still on wobbly legs! Can Holland finish him? Like a baseball bat into the meat of his leg there - nice leg kick by Holland.
Sepulveda seems to have recovered his senses. Sepulveda has a takedown stuffed. Holland slaps away a takedown attempt from Sepulveda , before circling back to the center of the mat. Holland lands with a nice body punch. Sepulveda darts in looking for a takedown but Holland gets double underhooks and turns Sepulveda into the cage. Sepulveda looks winded!
That's three minutes gone in the round. Holland scores with a nice hook to the head. Sepulveda tries to pull guard but Holland holds him up against the cage and eventually Sepulveda drops back down to his feet.
Sepulveda jumps guard but Holland stands there with Sepulveda around his waist. Sepulveda gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.
Holland stays in close to his opponent and throws a right hand to the body. I was talking to Holland's coach per-fight and he was telling me that they'd been working on the clinch in the runup to this fight. Sepulveda jumps guard but Holland stands there with Sepulveda around his waist. Sepulveda gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.
Holland connects with a nasty looking knee right to Sepulveda 's face.
Holland lands with a short head shot on the inside. Sepulveda tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Holland smiles and moves away.
A decent looking cross lands there for Holland. Nice uppercut there from Holland. Holland is really peppering his opponent's head with punches. Holland cracks Sepulveda with a big right hand that sends him crashing to the floor. Holland has the opportunity to follow him to the ground but instead he's beckoning Sepulveda to stand back up! This has been an exciting period of action! Sepulveda dives in and grabs Holland's left leg, looking for a takedown. Holland pushes down on Sepulveda 's head and hops out. Sepulveda closes this distance looking for a takedown but Holland circles away. Holland leaves Sepulveda with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Holland scores with a body shot.
