Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Brian Gummidge (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and BJ Penn (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of London, Brian Gummidge! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
3 - 7 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, BJ Penn! The judges for this bout are Valeri Chadov, Aleksei Zolotukhin and Vladimir Khabensky.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Penn moves in looking to clinch but Gummidge pushes him off. Penn blocks a jab. Penn is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two. Penn tries to check the leg kick but that clearly hurt him. Penn darts in looking for a takedown but Gummidge gets double underhooks and turns Penn into the cage. Penn blocks the elbow strike.
Gummidge creates a bit of distance and throws an elbow that only just misses. Penn is trying to work out of this bad position, with his back against the cage. Penn blocks a body shot from Gummidge. Penn gets control of Gummidge's arms and successfully pulls guard. Penn will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back. Penn trying to keep a closed guard but Gummidge is proving a slippery customer.
Gummidge distracts Penn with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm. Gummidge throws a big elbow that misses. Gummidge makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard. Gummidge trying to control the position from guard on top but Penn is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
That's one minute gone in the round. Gummidge is in close to Penn's body, working some short punches and elbows. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Gummidge won't allow Penn to get back to his feet. Gummidge might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground. Gummidge trying to control the position from guard on top but Penn is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Penn really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Gummidge. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. Penn utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound. Penn is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Gummidge is controlling him. Penn controls Gummidge momentarily but Gummidge frees himself.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up. Penn shoots in looking for a takedown. Gummidge tries to sprawl out of it but Penn keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Gummidge manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing. Gummidge looks to have improved his striking defense since last time we saw him fight. Gummidge cracks Penn with a hook to the jaw. Both fighters smile at eachother and high-five before getting back down to business. Penn ducks under a wild hook from Gummidge. Penn doesn't manage to clinch there - Gummidge circles away.
Penn clinches up with Gummidge and pushes him back against the cage. Penn blocks an elbow strike.

Penn ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Penn no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard. Gummidge working from the guard for now, landing some ground and pound. Gummidge is sitting in guard, working some ground and pound. Hammerfist, elbow! yells Gummidge's corner. There ya go! There ya go! Gummidge postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head. Gummidge missing there with some ground and pound from the guard. Gummidge throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Penn works some decent striking defense from the bottom. Penn has momentary wrist control but Gummidge slips an elbow through the middle. Penn pulls Gummidge in close to his closed guard and prevents Gummidge from doing any damage or advancing position.
That's four minutes gone in the round. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Gummidge is working Penn over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes. Gummidge loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry. Gummidge has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission. Gummidge tries to free his leg and advance position but Penn is retaining full guard. Gummidge with a nice head shot there. As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Gummidge is sitting in guard, working some ground and pound. Penn throws some sloppy strikes off his back.
Gummidge content to strike from guard, landing some decent shots. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Brian Gummidge dominated that round. The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!
Gummidge throws out a loose jab but Penn uses good head movement to avoid it. Penn staying out of range there. A cross from Gummidge lands. Penn wants to clinch up but Gummidge keeps it at a distance. Gummidge changes levels and scores with a jab to the body. Gummidge bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Penn wants to control but Gummidge postures up. Gummidge tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though. Penn can't do much from the bottom here.
That's one minute gone in the round. Gummidge wants to control but Penn is keeping him busy. Penn manages to land a sweep and he's now on top! Lovely Jiu Jitsu! Gummidge is not content to let Penn control the position. Gummidge is controlling Penn's trapped leg to prevent Penn from advancing to side control. Gummidge manages to get to full guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round. Gummidge pulls Penn in to control the position. Gummidge being controlled here, momentarily. The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.
BJ Penn has forced the referee to step in and restart the fight on the feet. A solid leg kick lands there for Penn.
Penn misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out. Gummidge scores with a jab. BJ Penn is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Penn throws a big shot that misses. Penn tries to close the distance and clinch up but Gummidge swats him away and circles back towards the center. Penn ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face. Penn tries a switch kick but it misses it's target. Gummidge moves out of range as Penn strikes. Penn lands with a slapping head kick. Penn swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Penn is breathing heavily. Nice takedown defense from Penn. No joy for Gummidge on that attempt. Penn uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Gummidge.

That's four minutes gone in the round. Gummidge lands a body shot.
Penn has a takedown stuffed. Penn takes a shot to the eye socket. That's gotta hurt. Penn fails miserably with a takedown attempt. Brian Gummidge has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of BJ Penn. Penn throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle. Ouch! a nice leg kick from Gummidge, right into the meat.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end. Gummidge throws a lazy right hand but Penn sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily. Gummidge throws a couple of head shots and lands with the final one - a decent hook, which struck Penn on the side of the head. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. A looping hook to the body misses from Gummidge. Penn does a little dance to reset his feet. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Penn takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired. Penn tries for a takedown but Gummidge sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily. Penn takes a solid shot to the body. Penn slips a straight right by Gummidge. Gummidge throws a right hand that misses
and Penn finishes the little exchange by landing a big kick to the body. The fighters circle momentarily. Gummidge darts into range and connects with a nice straight punch. Penn is looking to clinch. Gummidge throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land. Gummidge throws a poor cross that misses
and Penn counters with a one-two to the body. Gummidge throws a jab when Penn was well out of range. The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! Penn misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Gummidge lunges in with an uppercut that skims his opponent's chin. Gummidge tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Penn was well out of range. Poor timing from Gummidge.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Gummidge digs a good body shot into Penn's ribs. Gummidge throws out a leg kick but Penn moves out of range and Gummidge only half commits. Gummidge lands a beauty of a right hand that gets the crowd cheering.
Penn misses with a takedown and Gummidge counters with a nice double leg into guard. Brian Gummidge is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach. Gummidge content to stall in guard here. Gummidge wants to control from the top but Penn keeps moving. Gummidge is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.

The ref stands the fighters back up because Brian Gummidge just wasn't active enough. Penn uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Gummidge. The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! Gummidge throws an overhand right that lands on Penn's shoulder, as Penn tries to avoid the shot. Penn moves in looking to clinch but Gummidge pushes him off. As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Gummidge shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Penn as he jumps to the side. BJ Penn has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here! Gummidge moves out of range of the body kick.
And that's the end of the fight! Brian Gummidge showed his dominance in that final round. Well Gummidge has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
