Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Connor McManus (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and John Deurell (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). McManus comes into the arena with Jeff Danna - 'The Blood of Cú Chulainn' blaring out of the sound system. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Some wild striking there from Deurell.
Donk. McManus catches Deurell right on the button with a cross.
McManus throws a left and a right that both miss
and Deurell counters with a nice double leg into half guard.
We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.
Deurell tries to pass the half guard into mount. McManus knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.

Deurell uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by McManus.

Deurell shoots in and bounces McManus off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.

Deurell stands up over McManus, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Deurell isolates an arm and boxes in a triangle. McManus stacks Deurell on his neck as he steps over and passes to the side. He's now in a much more dominant position where he can look to do some serious damage. Nice move by McManus!
McManus is looking to take a break and control but Deurell is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
McManus lands a few punches from side control.
Deurell sneaks a leg under to get back to half guard.

Deurell is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
McManus is trying to control. Deurell wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.
Deurell is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of McManus's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take McManus's back!

McManus has his hands over his head blocking the strikes from Deurell.
The crowd hopeful of a finish here - Deurell's supporters are on their feet, screaming for him to go for the rear naked choke.

John Deurell showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Deurell enables McManus to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Deurell manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.

There's a bit of a scramble here and now Deurell is on top in guard.
Deurell got a little sloppy there for a moment and McManus has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Deurell has managed to get both his arms back between McManus's legs - danger averted.
McManus manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!
Deurell is looking to improve his position but McManus isn't that keen on the idea.

McManus is landing with some decent strikes but Deurell is trying to advance his position so the referee is letting the fight continue.

That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Connor McManus.
I think Deurell has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
