Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
1 - 6 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Jon Aguirre! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Borris Fulroy! The judges for this bout are Aleksandr Martynov, Sergei Dronov and Dmitry Maklakov.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Fulroy tries to clinch up and Aguirre counters with a left to the body. Fulroy tries to clinch there but Aguirre circles away.
Jon Aguirre seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Fulroy misses with a double jab.
Fulroy misses with a few strikes there.
Aguirre throws a series of punches but Fulroy avoids them all with ease. Aguirre clinches. Aguirre jumps guard and drags Fulroy to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back. The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup. Aguirre trying to control the position here. Fulroy has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Aguirre is proving hard to escape from.
That's one minute gone in the round. Aguirre looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up. Fulroy is looking to clinch. Aguirre fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Fulroy avoids it really well and circles away. Fulroy throws a combination that misses and Aguirre counters by moving into the clinch. Aguirre looks like he'd prefer to be striking at range right now. Aguirre jumps guard.
Fulroy wants to stand but Aguirre is controlling his posture from full guard.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Aguirre looking for a sweep. Not yet Aguirre, not yet. Aguirre looking to control.
Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up. A big left from Fulroy misses. Aguirre dives in for a single leg takedown but Fulroy sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage. Fulroy can't break the clinch.
Aguirre pulls guard successfully.
Aguirre manages to wriggle out and sneak his way back up to his feet, so the fighters are now clinched up against the cage.
That's three minutes gone in the round. A frustrated look appears on Fulroy's face as he tries to break the clinch. Fulroy manages to break the clinch.
Aguirre pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Fulroy tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion. Fulroy throws a one two combo.
It looks like Jon Aguirre has been cut. Aguirre tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion. Fulroy throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Aguirre changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Fulroy tries to avoid it but Aguirre manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Fulroy to the ground. Fulroy escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Jon Aguirre. That's going to take a lot out of him. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Aguirre shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Fulroy as he avoids it easily. Fulroy throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Aguirre swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Fulroy fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Aguirre tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Fulroy manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat. Aguirre shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Fulroy sprawls well. Fulroy wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Aguirre gets slowly back to his feet. Fulroy thows a left - swing and a miss! Fulroy displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Aguirre. As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Fulroy plants his feet and throws a brutal three punch combo that sends Aguirre swiftly into unconsciousness! Right, left, right! Boom, boom, boom! Aguirre face plants, battered and bloodied! He might never be the same again after that finish!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:55 of round 1, we have a winner by way of KO (Punches). Borris Fulroy! In his post fight interview, Borris Fulroy started talking himself up. Luckily his charisma kept the crowd on side and gave him a good reception.
