PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Kip Cote (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Brandon Connolly (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Well, the cameraman is lingering on a pretty young lady for a bit too long there. Keep your eyes on the prize buddy or you'll miss the fighter intros!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of London, Kip Cote!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of London, Brandon Connolly!
The judges for this bout are Andrew Berry, Donald Grub and James Glass.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Connolly throws a sloppy head kick and Cote moves out of range easily.
Connolly pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Connolly displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Cote.
Cote blocks the body kick.
Connolly throws a jab when Cote was well out of range.
A head kick misses from Connolly.
Connolly tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Cote shoots in looking for a takedown. Connolly tries to sprawl out of it but Cote keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Connolly manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Connolly lets loose with a powerful body kick. Cote will feel that in the morning.
Well, he's not going to score with shots like that. A lazy body kick attempt from Connolly.
Connolly throws a solid leg kick but Cote takes the impact on his shin and smiles at Connolly.
Connolly misses with a leg kick
and Cote counters with a series of strikes. Connolly will be more careful next time no doubt.

Connolly throws a body kick but he was well out of range there.
Connolly scoring well with a low kick there.
Connolly lets loose with a powerful body kick. Cote will feel that in the morning.
Cote throws a head kick but Connolly moves out of range.
Connolly takes a swing at Cote's ribcage but misses.
Cote blocks the body kick.
Connolly lands with a kick to the temple. Cote shrugs as if to say "is that all you've got?"
Brandon Connolly seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Cote takes a nice looking leg kick right on the meat of his thigh there.

Cote moves out of range of the body kick.

Connolly pivots as if he's going to throw a leg kick but stops half way.
Connolly misses with a low kick.
Connolly looks to land a right hand but Cote moved out of range.
Connolly fakes the leg kick and cracks Cote in the body.
Cote moves out of range of the body kick.
Connolly fakes with a right hand and throws a good leg kick, right into the thigh. That had to hurt Cote.
Connolly misses with a body kick.
Cote takes a head kick and shrugs it off.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Cote tries for a takedown but Connolly sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Kip Cote. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Connolly swings for the body but Cote moves out of range.
Connolly leaves Cote with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Connolly throws a wild body kick that Cote sees coming a mile off.

Connolly lands a nice looking body kick.
Connolly throws a body kick that digs right into the meat.
Connolly throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Cote shoots in for a double leg but Connolly sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
Cote fails to land the takedown.
Cote misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Connolly misses with an attempted mid kick.
Cote stumbles momentarily as he takes a strong leg kick from Connolly.
Connolly fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Cote manages to avoid it.

Cote looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Connolly is fending him off so far but Cote persists. Nope, Connolly circles away and we're back to standing.
Connolly thows a body kick. Cote tries to catch it but that hurt him.
Connolly throws a right hand that misses
and Cote counters with a left and a right that stings Connolly.
Connolly lands an overhand left. A wild punch that just about connected.
Connolly misses with an attempted mid kick.
Connolly throws a head kick that half lands.
Well, he's not going to score with shots like that. A lazy body kick attempt from Connolly.
Cote has a takedown stuffed.
Connolly fakes a couple of low kicks, before throwing one on the third attempt. It connects and Cote has to reset his feet before getting ready to engage.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Connolly lands with a cross to side of his opponent's head.
Connolly fakes with the hands and throws a leg kick but Cote is out of range.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Brandon Connolly dominated that round.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!

Cote moves away from the strike by Connolly.
Cote will be looking to protect his midsection after taking some solid kicks to the body.
Connolly is looking to chop away at Cote's legs.
We've been informed that Connolly has been working hard on his conditioning in the buildup to the fight.
Cote shoots for a double leg takedown but Connolly sprawls well. He's pushed Cote's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Cote moves out of range of the body kick.
Cote walks forward, straight into a front kick from Connolly.

Connolly throws a sloppy head kick and Cote moves out of range easily.
Cote takes a body kick right on the floating rib. Ouchie.
No luck for Cote with that takedown attempt.
Cote walks straight into an uppercut. Luckily it didn't land flush.

Cote fails with a takedown attempt.

Connolly is looking to land body kicks.
Cote misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.

and Cote counters with a one-two to the body.

and Cote counters with a shoot takedown. Connolly fights it but they end up in guard.
Cote controlling from the top position.
Cote has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.

Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

The ref stands the fighters back up because Kip Cote just wasn't active enough.
Connolly looking to throw a kick but he's pulled out of it.
Cote walks straight into a jab right on the nose. That one stung - he's blinking and trying to clear his head.
Ooooh, nice body kick lands from Connolly. Cote shrugs it off though.
Cote darts in looking for a takedown but Connolly gets double underhooks and turns Cote into the cage.

Cote drags the fight down to the ground.
Cote lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Connolly!
Cote takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
Connolly is looking to improve his position but Cote isn't that keen on the idea.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.

Cote controlling from mount.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Connolly is desperately trying to get back to half guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close second round but I would say that Kip Cote will probably get the nod.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. Ladies and gentlemen, this is the final round!


Connolly connects with a nice looking jab.
A looping hook to the body misses from Connolly. Cote does a little dance to reset his feet.
Connolly throws a push kick but Cote slaps the foot to one side.
Connolly misses with a body kick.
Cote changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Connolly tries to avoid it but Cote manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Connolly to the ground. Connolly escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Cote closes this distance looking for a takedown but Connolly circles away.
A kick lands to the mid section there for Connolly.
Connolly throws a body kick but he wasn't in range.
Connolly feints with a shoulder and throws a nice leg kick to Cote's calf.
Connolly pulls out of a head kick attempt.
A decent looking body kick lands there for Connolly.
Connolly defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Cote.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Kip Cote. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Connolly tests Cote's chin there with a solid looking shot.
Cote on the wrong end of a kick to the body.
Kip Cote is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Connolly misses with a hook

and Cote counters with a nice double leg into half guard.
Cote perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.
Connolly is trying to maintain the position but Cote is very close to passing his half guard.
Cote is controlling the pace.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Kip Cote wasn't doing enough on the ground.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Cote.
Cote stumbles momentarily as he takes a strong leg kick from Connolly.
Connolly throws a head kick that misses.
Cote fails with a takedown attempt.
Connolly misses with a low kick.

Connolly throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
A head kick misses from Connolly.
Cote looks for a takedown but Connolly sprawls well.
Cote moves out of range as Connolly throws a body kick.
Connolly throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Connolly lands with a slapping head kick.
Brandon Connolly is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Connolly fakes with a right hand and throws a good leg kick, right into the thigh. That had to hurt Cote.
A nice leg kick lands there from Connolly.
Cote blocks the body kick.
Connolly lands a kick to the ribs of his opponent. Nice work there - in and out in a flash.

Connolly jabbing away but nothing is landing.
Connolly throws a sloppy head kick and Cote moves out of range easily.
Connolly takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Connolly throws a half hearted mid kick.
Connolly attempts a leg kick but it's missed by a good margin.
Cote takes a kick to the body and keeps moving.
Cote misses with the combination.
Cote shoots in but no luck this time.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Connolly throws a body kick that sends a sickening thudding noise reverberating around the arena.
Connolly throws a quick head kick that skims the top of Cote's head.
A nice inside leg kick there by Connolly. That's going to slow Cote down.

And that's the end of the fight!
Brandon Connolly comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Connolly has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
