Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Martin Hewitt!
The judges for this bout are Jonathan Paton, Franklyn Lucas and David Schapiro.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
McGirt misses with a hook. Hewitt ducked under it nicely.
Dirt McGirt seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Hewitt is trying hard to land a takedown here. McGirt sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.
Hewitt shoots in for a takedown but McGirt shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
McGirt has been working on his boxing with his coaches at The Beast in the buildup to the fight.
McGirt lands a jab to the head.
Hewitt gets his head snapped back by a nice shot there.
McGirt stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and McGirt wants it to stay on the feet.

McGirt is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Hewitt.

Hewitt throws a looping overhand right but McGirt ducks down to avoid it.
Hewitt shoots in looking for a takedown. McGirt tries to sprawl out of it but Hewitt keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. McGirt manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
McGirt throws a right and a left that Hewitt avoids nicely.
Dirt McGirt is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.

McGirt is really head hunting here, hardly looking to strike to the body at all.
McGirt throws a hook to the side of Hewitt's head but Hewitt sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.
A looping hook to the body misses from McGirt. Hewitt does a little dance to reset his feet.
Hewitt dives in and grabs McGirt's left leg, looking for a takedown. McGirt pushes down on Hewitt's head and hops out.
Hewitt shoots in for a takedown but McGirt shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.

The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Hewitt fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
Hewitt moves out of range as McGirt strikes.
McGirt misses with a left hand

and Hewitt counters by moving into the clinch.
McGirt lands with a short shot to the head.

McGirt is trying to slow down the pace of the fight but Hewitt is keeping busy.
McGirt wants to break free but Hewitt has control.
Hewitt drops down for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Hewitt tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. McGirt just stands there and leans against the cage.
Hewitt goes for a takedown in the clinch but McGirt prevents it.
Hewitt jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as McGirt walks away with a smile on his face. Hewitt gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.
McGirt throws a nice outside leg kick.
McGirt connects with a leg kick. Hewitt looked like he was expecting something else and didn't defend it.
Hewitt uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by McGirt.
McGirt displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Hewitt.
Hewitt shoots for a double leg takedown but McGirt sprawls well. He's pushed Hewitt's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.

Hewitt takes a jab right on the kisser.

Hewitt shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as McGirt sprawls well. McGirt wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Hewitt gets slowly back to his feet.
Hewitt takes a big uppercut there. He seems a bit wobbly but no, he's OK.
Hewitt walks forward, straight into a front kick from McGirt.

McGirt is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Hewitt's half guard.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
McGirt is just content to waste time from the top position. Hewitt takes advantage of the situation and regains full guard.
McGirt wants to control from the top but Hewitt keeps moving.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


McGirt throws a right and a left that both miss.
McGirt misses with a low kick.
Hewitt shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
A jab from McGirt does it's job there.
Hewitt with poor footwork there. He got himself in a bit of a tangle, enabling McGirt to score with a decent uppercut.
Nice defenses there by Hewitt.

McGirt cracks Hewitt with an open hand slap.
Hewitt fakes high and swings low for a body shot but McGirt manages to avoid it.

Hewitt shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Hewitt was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
McGirt is trying to control Hewitt's posture but Hewitt avoids it.

Hewitt is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, McGirt has escaped the position, nice work there.

Hewitt looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything.

McGirt is trying to get back to half guard.

My spies in gym closing inform me that Hewitt has been getting involved in the gym's BJJ sparring sessions. Let's see whether that pays dividends!

Hewitt tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but McGirt defends well and Hewitt ends up having to push McGirt into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
McGirt tries a shoulder strike but it doesn't do any damage.
McGirt lands a right hand.
McGirt will no doubt start fighting again in a minute but for now he's just having a little rest, leaning Hewitt up against the cage.

And that's the end of the fight!
Dirt McGirt showed his dominance in that final round.
I think McGirt has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
