Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Alex Pereira (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jay Penn (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Chooooooooon! I think Pereira might be my favorite fighter, now he's come out to Method Man ft Redman - Da Rockwilder. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 6 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Alex Pereira!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 5 - 1, fighting out of Hilo, Jay Penn!
The judges for this bout are Chris Saunders, Colin Fray and Roger Salmon.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Penn dives in for a single leg takedown but Pereira sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage.

Pereira pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Pereira looking to land some kicks to the body here.
Penn takes a nasty kick to the mid section... That should keep him thinking. Does he try and block and risk a head kick landing?
Penn shoots in looking for a takedown. Pereira tries to sprawl out of it but Penn keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Pereira manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.

Pereira gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.
Pereira is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control.
Pereira seems to have improved his submission grappling technique since last time we saw him. Let's see if he can pull off a submission.

Pereira manages to get to full guard.
Penn trying to control the position from guard on top but Pereira is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Pereira pulls Penn in close to prevent any damage.

Pereira is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Pereira is trying to get back to his feet now but his leg is trapped.

Penn looking for submissions off his back.
Pereira tries to stand but can't do so whilst Penn controls his leg.
Penn tries to get to full guard but Pereira has control of the leg.

Pereira decides to stand up.
Pereira lands a jab-cross combination.


It looks like Jay Penn has been cut.
Penn dives in and grabs Pereira's left leg, looking for a takedown. Pereira pushes down on Penn's head and hops out.
Alex Pereira has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Jay Penn.
Pereira throws a quick head kick that skims the top of Penn's head.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Pereira throws a right hand that Penn ducks under and follows up with a left that Penn also avoids with ease.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Penn fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Pereira moves into range and throws a lovely three punch combination.
Pereira stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Pereira wants it to stay on the feet.

Penn shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Pereira manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.
Penn with a flurry of punches that miss.
Penn won't allow Pereira to sweep him here.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Penn accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Pereira is adopting a defensive guard.
Pereira looking to hit a scissor sweep but Penn is one step ahead there.
Pereira seems keen to control Penn's posture.
The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.
Penn loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.

Penn is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.

Penn escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Pereira gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Pereira wants to stand and escape but instead Penn has hit a sweep and he's now on top in guard.

Pereira wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.

Jay Penn has got the better of the ground game so far.
Pereira would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Pereira avoids a guillotine attempt easily.

Penn looking to sweep here. No luck so far.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Alex Pereira wasn't doing enough on the ground.
Penn tries for a takedown but Pereira sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Pereira misses with a few strikes there.
Pereira throws a head kick that connects with a bit of head and a bit of hand.
Penn shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Pereira but Pereira pushes him off and we're back to square one.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Pereira plants his feet and lands a nice head kick!
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Pereira misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Penn is trying hard to land a takedown here. Pereira sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.
Penn will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.

Pereira looks to land a combination. Penn sees it coming but can only parry a couple of the shots.
Penn looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
Pereira connects with a combination that backs up Penn into the cage. Pereira lands a flurry of punches that gets past Penn's guard. Penn is down and the referee has seen enough. It is all over! Pereira bursts into tears - this win obviously means a huge amount to him.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:30 of round 3, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Alex Pereira!
During a confident post fight interview, Alex Pereira thanked all his fans. He seemed very genuine when describing how motivated his fans keep him.
