Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
1 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Del Hickman! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Anthony Pettis! The judges for this bout are Alan Glass, George Francis and Frank Dennis.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! A head kick misses from Hickman. Hickman shoots in but no luck this time. Hickman fails with a takedown attempt from distance. Hickman instigates a clinch. Pettis tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.
Pettis is looking to take this one to the mat. Pettis jumps guard but Hickman turns him against the cage and keeps the fight standing. Del Hickman has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Anthony Pettis. Hickman's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does. Hickman shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Pettis defends it nicely. Pettis shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Hickman sprawls well. Hickman wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Pettis gets slowly back to his feet. Hickman gets a clinch.
That's one minute gone in the round. Pettis misses with a hook from the clinch. Pettis tries to stall but Hickman uses the opportunity to gain a better position.

Hickman will no doubt start fighting again in a minute but for now he's just having a little rest, leaning Pettis up against the cage. Kneeeeees! The crowd are calling for knees to the body. Hickman obliges. Pettis is trying to work out of this bad position, with his back against the cage. Hickman breaks from the clinch.
Pettis tries to clinch but fails miserably and Hickman counters with a good, hard body kick but Pettis shrugs it off.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Hickman drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Pettis is letting Hickman control him for a moment. Hickman is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Pettis has escaped the position, nice work there. Hickman thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead. Hickman throws a strike aimed at the side of Pettis's head but Pettis avoids it well. The crowd are loving this. Great action here. The referee tells the fighters to keep busy.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Pettis avoids any damage from the ground and pound of Hickman. Hickman controlling from side mount. Pettis manages to work his way to half guard, despite Hickman's best efforts. Hickman performing his best blanket impression for a moment.
That's four minutes gone in the round.
The ref stands the fighters back up because Del Hickman just wasn't active enough. Pettis stuffs the takedown. Pettis moves to clinch but Hickman breaks away and Hickman counters into the clinch. Nicely done. Hickman escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Hickman throws a head kick that misses. Hickman gets a takedown into half guard. This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Pettis trying to control here.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Pettis wants to control but Hickman passes into side.

Del Hickman dominated that round. The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.
Pettis tries to keep at a distance but Hickman has taken the fight into the clinch. Hickman is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Pettis pulls him back up using the underhooks. Hickman gets through Pettis's defenses to land a nice punch to the side of the head. Pettis trying to control the position but instead, Hickman has worked for underhooks and has pushed Pettis into the cage. Pettis is trying to pull guard but Hickman has him pressed against the cage. Pettis is trying to pull guard but Hickman turns him against the cage and we stay in the clinch. Pettis is pressed up against the cage. Hickman has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Pettis down to the mat. Pettis avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance. Hickman looks to score with a combo but nothing lands. An inside leg kick lands from Pettis.
That's one minute gone in the round. Pettis fails to land the takedown. Del Hickman has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Anthony Pettis. Pettis blocks a head kick by Hickman.
Hickman circles away from the clinch attempt and Hickman counters nicely by changing levels and landing a hook to the body. Horrible takedown by Pettis or perhaps it was just good defense by Hickman which made him look bad. Pettis displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Hickman throws out the jab. Pettis tries to close the distance and clinch up but Hickman swats him away and circles back towards the center. Hickman throws a head kick that connects with a bit of head and a bit of hand.
Del Hickman is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things. Hickman keeps the fight on the outside. Pettis fails with a takedown attempt. Pettis is breathing heavily.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Hickman fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt. Hickman gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here. Hickman ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Hickman no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Pettis wants to pass the guard but Hickman is keeping the position. Pettis being controlled here momentarily. Hickman is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Hickman scrambles and gets back to his feet.
Hickman shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Pettis pinned against the cage. Pettis gets the underhooks and manages to circle away. Pettis darts in looking for a takedown but Hickman gets double underhooks and turns Pettis into the cage. Hickman lands a body shot in the clinch.

Pettis closes the distance looking to clinch and Hickman moves into the clinch.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Hickman connects with a knee to the head.

Pettis letting Hickman take a breather here. Pettis working hard to break the clinch. Hickman tries to land knees in the clinch but Pettis avoids the damage to the body. Hickman is looking to score with knees to the body. Maybe he'll change it up and go body then head. Pettis is defending well for now. The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end. Hickman lands a right uppercut that snaps the head of Pettis backwards. Pettis tries for a takedown. No joy.

Del Hickman dominated that second round. OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. And we move into the final round!

That's going to sap some energy. Hickman shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it. Hickman gets a double leg takedown into Pettis's guard. Pettis is working an open guard so Hickman takes the opportunity to get back to his feet. Hickman gets in close and instigates a clinch. Hickman breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.

Pettis manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Del Hickman. That's going to take a lot out of him. Hickman throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle. Hickman throws a head kick that misses. Hickman keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl. Pettis tries to score a power double leg takedown but Hickman sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Pettis somewhat. Hickman fails to land the takedown.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Hickman works over Pettis's head and body with a nice combination. Hickman rushes Pettis and presses him up against the cage. Hickman pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat. Pettis misses with a takedown and Hickman counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Hickman. The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! Pettis working a defensive guard but Hickman manages to pass into side control anyway.
The referee tells the fighters to keep busy. Pettis really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Hickman. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Sloppy strikes there by Hickman. Hickman stands up and we're back to a striking position. Hickman closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth. Pettis avoids any damage from the ground and pound of Hickman. Hickman stands up and we're back to a striking position. Hickman darts in and clinches Pettis up against the cage. Hickman cracks Pettis with a nice body shot.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Hickman pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat. Hickman throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Pettis's waist but Pettis gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Hickman off to one side. Some wild striking there from Pettis.
Hickman shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Hickman seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense. As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Pettis is in trouble now - Hickman has advanced to mount!
And that's the end of the fight! Del Hickman showed his dominance in that final round. Well Hickman has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
