Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Major Obrien (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Eduardo Kenei (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Eduardo Kenei looks lathargic as he enters the arena. Wake up son, you're about to have a fight!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Major Obrien!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Eduardo Kenei!
The judges for this bout are Daniel Cesar, Alexandre Firmino and Felipe Paraventi.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Obrien misses with a series of wild punches.
Kenei looks really tired already! That doesn't bode well for a good, competitive fight!

The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Obrien tries to pass the half guard into mount. Kenei knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.
Kenei wants to control but Obrien is keeping busy and won't allow it.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Major Obrien wasn't doing enough on the ground.

Kenei tries to sprawl but Obrien drives through with a takedown into half guard.

The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Obrien lands a nice short elbow.

and Obrien counters with a shoot takedown. Kenei fights it but they end up in guard.

Obrien is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Kenei has escaped the position, nice work there.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

Obrien tries to get to his feet but he's trapped momentarily.
Obrien remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while.
Obrien wants to stand but Kenei is controlling his arm.
Kenei looks more muscular than last time we saw him. He must have been on the weights.

Obrien cracks Kenei with a big elbow.
You can see the frustration on Kenei's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
The referee asks Obrien politely if he wouldn't mind getting on with it and actually doing something. Obrien prefers to stall for the moment though.
Kenei prevents Obrien from moving into mount.
Obrien wants to lay and pray for a moment but Kenei keeps working.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Obrien is moving around in side control but his primary objective seems to be to maintain the position.

Major Obrien has forced the referee to step in and bring the fight back to the feet.

Obrien manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Kenei on his heels. He'll look to pass Kenei's guard now, I'm sure.
Obrien might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Obrien slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.

Kenei is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Obrien advances to half guard.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Obrien is pressing down on Kenei's thigh, looking to free his foot. Kenei is holding on for now.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's time! Back to the action! This is the final round!


Obrien changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Kenei tries to avoid it but Obrien manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Kenei to the ground. Kenei escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Kenei is trying hard to land a takedown here. Obrien sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.

Obrien shoots in and bounces Kenei off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.

Obrien is nestled in close to Kenei, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.

Major Obrien overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
