Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Rickey Obrien (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Gilbert Melendez (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Gilbert Melendez! The judges for this bout are George Francis, Chris Downing and Wesley Smith.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Obrien misses with a low kick as Melendez jumps back. Obrien steps to his left, right into the path of a big body kick from Melendez. That one must have hurt. Melendez fails to land the takedown. Melendez tries to clinch but Obrien is having none of it. Melendez shoots for a double leg takedown but Obrien sprawls well. He's pushed Melendez's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily. Obrien circles away from the clinch attempt and Obrien counters with a left to the body. Melendez looks for a takedown but Obrien sprawls well. Rickey Obrien has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Gilbert Melendez. Obrien avoids a kick to the body.
That's one minute gone in the round. Obrien throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle. Melendez swats away the attempt to clinch by Obrien. Melendez forces Obrien back against the cage and clinches. Melendez wants to get back to striking at distance but Obrien won't allow it.
Obrien has Melendez pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Melendez manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing. Obrien breaks the clinch.
Melendez shoots in for a double leg but Obrien sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy. Melendez shoots for a takedown but Obrien saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily. Melendez misses with a takedown and Obrien counters with a nice uppercut.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Melendez misses with a straight left. Obrien could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely. A shot to the liver by Melendez. Beautiful body shot. Melendez has Obrien up against the cage in a clinch.
Melendez scores with a shot to the side of Obrien's head. Obrien tries to land a knee to the body but he is off balance and Melendez avoids it. Obrien's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does. Melendez is looking to clinch. Melendez dips down and scores with a jab to the body.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Melendez shoots in for a takedown but Obrien shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet. Melendez darts in trying to clinch and Obrien counters with a shot to the ribs. That looked like it hurt. Melendez fails with an attempt to clinch.
Melendez tries to score a power double leg takedown but Obrien sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Melendez somewhat. Melendez shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Obrien sprawls well. Obrien wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Melendez gets slowly back to his feet. Melendez tries to sprawl but Obrien drives through with a takedown into half guard.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Obrien is trying to work for a kimura but Melendez is defending well.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Melendez can do anything to dispel that myth. Obrien looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding. Melendez wants to get back to his feet.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end. Obrien performing his best blanket impression for a moment. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
That was a close round but I would say that Rickey Obrien will probably get the nod. That's time! Obrien's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.
Melendez throws a body punch but Obrien moves out of range. Melendez misses with a takedown attempt - Obrien sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses. Melendez wants to clinch. Melendez throws a nice looking combination but Obrien bobs and weaves to avoid any damage. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Melendez tries to clinch up.
That's one minute gone in the round. Melendez tries to grapple but his opponent circles and Obrien makes him pay by landing a nice hook to the body before moving out of range. Melendez tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Obrien swivels and escapes. Obrien bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes. Melendez shoots for a double leg takedown but Obrien sprawls well. He's pushed Melendez's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Melendez looking for submissions from the bottom but instead Obrien passes into side control.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Obrien is moving around in side control but his primary objective seems to be to maintain the position.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Obrien gets to mount! Melendez was on the offensive and wasn't defending properly. Obrien controlling the pace for now. Obrien seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Melendez for as long as he can get away with. Obrien looking for a guillotine from mount but Melendez is having none of it.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Melendez throws a strike but has given up his back in the process.
Obrien is looking cool and calm here, just waiting for a good opportunity to attack and finish the fight from this dominant position.

Melendez has his takedown stuffed and Obrien counters with a head kick. That will keep Melendez thinking before he tries any more sloppy attacks! Melendez tries for a takedown but Obrien circles away easily and Obrien counters with a kick to the head that grazes his opponent. Melendez is lucky that one didn't land flush. Melendez takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

That's three minutes gone in the round. Melendez tries to clinch but Obrien is having none of it. Melendez pivots as if he's going to throw a leg kick but stops half way. Obrien fails with the takedown. Melendez throws a leg kick but Obrien moved away. Gilbert Melendez seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Melendez avoids the head kick by Obrien.
Obrien shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Melendez napping and manages to drive through into side control! Obrien taking a breather here. Obrien tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.

And that's the end of the fight! Rickey Obrien showed his dominance in that final round. Well I reckon that's a shut out for Obrien, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
