Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Ron Andrews! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, John Peters! The judges for this bout are Chris Saunders, Colin Fray and Roger Salmon.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Some wild striking there from Peters.
John Peters seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Nice straight punches there by Peters. You know Roy Jones Jr respects the hands of Peters.
It looks like Ron Andrews has been cut. Andrews misses with a double jab
and Peters counters with a right hand to the body. Andrews really is a fat lump. Andrews showing good head movement there, avoiding the strikes from Peters.
Peters throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Peters misses with a wild body shot. Peters misses the shot to the body. Andrews misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out. Peters moves into the clinch. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Peters has had enough of the clinch but Andrews keeps him there for the moment. Peters dodges an elbow strike from Andrews.
Andrews can't get the takedown.
That's one minute gone in the round. Andrews content to slow the pace in the clinch.
Peters wants to break free. God knows he wants to breaaaak freeee. Andrews is trying to pull guard but being pressed up against the cage enables Peters to keep the fight standing. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Ron Andrews. That's going to take a lot out of him. Andrews breaks from the clinch.
Peters darts in and clinches Andrews up against the cage. Peters lands a hook to the body. It's hard to tell if that hurt Andrews or not. Peters lands a nice shot to the body. Andrews tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Peters smiles and moves away.
Peters works the jab nicely.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Peters throws a right and a left that Andrews avoids nicely. Andrews ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Peters moves away. Peters lands a left and a right that send Andrews crashing to the mat, dazed. Peters thinks about following him to the mat but decides to wave him back up to his feet!
Andrews is rocked! We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Peters connects with a picture perfect right hand that knocks Andrews out cold! This one is over in a flash!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:20 of round 1, we have a winner by way of KO (Punch). John Peters!
