Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
9 - 10 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Maksim Veremko! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Aarne Sarrinen! The judges for this bout are Arvi Lind, Anni Minnemäki and Ben Zyskovitsi.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! A head kick by Sarrinen misses and Veremko counters with a nice body kick.
Veremko lands the left hand. Sarrinen tries to clinch up but Veremko circles away and keeps his distance. Sarrinen looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into side control! Oh, that's bad for Veremko! The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up. Sarrinen tries to get to his feet but he's trapped momentarily. Veremko is looking to work his way out of this bad position but Sarrinen is controlling him well. Sarrinen with the ground and pound but Veremko regains half guard under the barage of strikes. Veremko looks like he's trying to stand up.
That's one minute gone in the round. Sarrinen is looking to advance position but Veremko won't allow it. Sarrinen prevents Veremko from standing back up.
Sarrinen trying to control the action but Veremko is working from the bottom. Veremko blocking the ground and pound attempt from Sarrinen. Veremko is trying to stand.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Sarrinen wants to pass to mount but Veremko is defending the position. Veremko wants to get back to his feet.
Sarrinen really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Veremko. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. Veremko is not content to let Sarrinen control the position.
The ref stands the fighters back up. Aarne Sarrinen was stalling too much, according to the referee. Veremko wants to clinch. The fight moves into the clinch position.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Veremko escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Veremko tries to clinch but Sarrinen is having none of it. Veremko fails with an attempt to clinch.
Sarrinen throws a combination that misses and Veremko counters with a head kick. Veremko has taken the fight to the clinch.
Veremko is trying to push Sarrinen away but Sarrinen has him pressed against the cage, so he's going nowhere. Veremko tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Sarrinen smiles and moves away.
Sarrinen scores with a takedown into Veremko's guard. Sarrinen looks winded! Veremko kicks Sarrinen off and gets to his feet.
That's four minutes gone in the round. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Sarrinen pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Veremko tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Sarrinen paws at him with a jab and circles away. Sarrinen wants to clinch. Veremko gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here. Veremko breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Sarrinen moves into the clinch. Veremko is trying to drag Sarrinen to the mat but Sarrinen just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there. Sarrinen wants to break free but Veremko has control.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Veremko manages to break the clinch.

Veremko throws a vicious knee straight up the middle but Sarrinen blocks it with crossed arms. Sarrinen pulls guard. Veremko gets to his feet - Sarrinen follows without any prompting. Veremko misses with a head kick.
Veremko tries to clinch but Sarrinen is having none of it. Sarrinen rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Veremko moves out of range and avoids them all easily. Veremko throws a head kick that misses. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Veremko throws a series of strikes that have Sarrinen backpedaling.
Sarrinen shoots in for a takedown and gets it. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Sarrinen is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Veremko sees it coming and defends easily. Sarrinen is breathing heavily.
That's one minute gone in the round. Sarrinen stops Veremko from getting back to his feet.
Veremko manages to escape and get back to his feet! Left hook, right uppercut from Veremko. Veremko throws a series of strikes that have Sarrinen backpedaling.
Veremko throws a sloppy head kick and Sarrinen moves out of range easily. Veremko works over Sarrinen's head and body with a nice combination. Sarrinen avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Veremko misses with a double jab.
Veremko tries to clinch up but Sarrinen circles away and keeps his distance. Sarrinen throws a lazy head kick and Veremko counters with a big head kick but Sarrinen shrugs it off.
That's two minutes gone in the round. This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Veremko is looking to clinch. Sarrinen avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Maksim Veremko is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things. Veremko takes the fight into the clinch. Veremko manages to break the clinch.

Sarrinen has picked Veremko up - he's going for a ride! Sarrinen dumps his opponent to the mat with a thud and settles into half guard. Sarrinen prevents Veremko from standing back up.

Sarrinen is trying to control the action in half guard but Veremko is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard. Veremko pushes Sarrinen off looking to stand but Sarrinen dives back in and keeps control.

The fighters are working up against the cage. Veremko manages to wriggle his way back to his feet, so the fighters are now clinched against the cage. Veremko pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat. Veremko fails in his attempt to clinch.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Sarrinen throws a sloppy head kick and Veremko counters with a stiff right hand. Maksim Veremko is winning the standup battle so far. Veremko tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Sarrinen manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat. Maksim Veremko seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Veremko gets a clinch. Veremko pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat. Veremko goes for a high kick. It partially lands. Veremko moves in looking to clinch but Sarrinen pushes him off. Veremko misses with a wild combination.

The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action! Veremko tries to close the distance and clinch up but Sarrinen swats him away and circles back towards the center. Veremko looks to score with a combo but nothing lands. Veremko manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Veremko wants to stand but Sarrinen is controlling the position. Veremko has scooted to the edge of the canvas and used the cage to get back to his feet. Sarrinen has stuck on his opponent and is forcing him back against the cage. Veremko working hard to break the clinch. Veremko breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat. Maksim Veremko is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs. Sarrinen showing good head movement there, avoiding the strikes from Veremko.
Veremko closes the distance and clinches. Veremko wants to break the clinch but can't.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Sarrinen jumps guard and drags Veremko to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back. Sarrinen is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive. Veremko stands and steps away. Sarrinen gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game. Veremko tries to clinch up but Sarrinen circles away and keeps his distance. Veremko displaying good standup as he scores with a three punch combination. Veremko lands with a head kick! That's gotta hurt. Veremko closes the distance and clinches. Veremko wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Sarrinen has him pressed against the cage. Veremko has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Sarrinen uses from the top position. Sarrinen prevents Veremko from getting back to his feet. Sarrinen pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Veremko is keeping the position for now. Sarrinen must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Veremko is looking to stand up but Sarrinen isn't so interested in that idea. Sarrinen wants to control from the top but Veremko keeps moving. The crowd are loving this. Great action here. It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.
The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Aarne Sarrinen wasn't active enough on the ground. Veremko throws a head kick that misses. As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Veremko lands a jab. Then a cross. Then finally a nice hook to the body. Good work there by Veremko. Aarne Sarrinen has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here! Maksim Veremko is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach. Sarrinen fails in his attempt to clinch.
And that's the end of the fight! Maksim Veremko showed his dominance in that final round. Well I reckon that's a shut out for Veremko, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
