Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Dusty Stanton! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Donovan Robertson! The judges for this bout are Jorge Garcia, Russell Pearce and Lou da Vinci.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Robertson bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control. Robertson tries for a kimura but Stanton is defending well. Robertson wants to control but Stanton is keeping him busy. Stanton seems a little lost for a moment, as Robertson dominates the positioning. Stanton struggling a bit here. Robertson looks more muscular than last time we saw him. He must have been on the weights. Stanton tries to strike but it doesn't land. Stanton really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape. Stanton is trying to control Robertson's posture but Robertson avoids it. Stanton knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Robertson on the ground. The strikes coming from Robertson are missing the target in this wave of attacks. Robertson tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though. Robertson working away. Robertson taking a breather here. Stanton keeps Robertson under control for a moment.
That's one minute gone in the round. An elbow from Robertson crashes against the mat.
Robertson wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Stanton, who protects the arm well. Robertson looks up at the clock and then as Stanton takes his cue and looks up at the clock too, Robertson smacks him right in the chops with a big elbow! How rude!
Robertson wants to lay and pray for a moment but Stanton keeps working. Stanton struggling a bit here. Robertson trying to control the action but Stanton is working from the bottom. Robertson remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Robertson sitting in side control, looking to soften his opponent up with elbows and hammerfists but Stanton is avoiding damage well and looking to escape the position.
You can see the frustration on Stanton's face, being in this tough position on the bottom. Robertson is looking to take a break and control but Stanton is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom. Stanton is looking to reverse the position. Stanton didn't react quickly enough there and he's in big trouble now! He tries to squirm out but is forced to tap! Robertson is delighted and gyrates in front of the ring girls. They seem to like the attention - it'll be interesting to see if Robertson hooks up with any of them at the after show party.
Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:56 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Americana). Donovan Robertson! In his post fight interview, Donovan Robertson started talking himself up. Luckily his charisma kept the crowd on side and gave him a good reception.
