Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Wilber Bender! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Mark Munoz! The judges for this bout are Wagner Zegers, Paul Aken and Daniel Blasius.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Bender circles away from the clinch attempt.
Bender tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Munoz swivels and escapes. Munoz shoots for a takedown but Bender saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily. Munoz tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion. Bender dodges the punch combination from Munoz.
Munoz shoots in and drives through. Bender sprawls well. Bender throws an off balance right hand
and Munoz counters with a three punch combo that has Bender backing up. Bender nods at Munoz to acknowledge the strikes. Nice sprawl there from Munoz as Bender shoots in. Munoz blocks a head kick by Bender.
No luck for Munoz with that takedown attempt. Wilber Bender has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Mark Munoz. Bender clinches up with Munoz and pushes him back against the cage. Bender jumps guard but Munoz turns him against the cage and keeps the fight standing. Bender really is a fat lump. Munoz is trying to slow down the pace of the fight but Bender is keeping busy.
That's one minute gone in the round. Bender jumps guard and drags Munoz to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back. It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup. Munoz trying to control the position from guard on top but Bender is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Bender trying to control the position here. Munoz pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Bender is keeping the position for now. Munoz cracks Bender with a solid left hand. Bender thows some rabbit punches from the bottom but they don't do any damage.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Munoz wants to control from the top but Bender keeps moving. Bender knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Munoz on the ground. Munoz looking to pass the guard. Bender wants to sweep but no luck. Munoz is pushing down on Bender's leg trying to pass to half guard. Bender is fighting to maintain full guard but Munoz has managed to sneak the leg through. Munoz content to sit in half guard and control for a moment. Munoz thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Bender's head. Munoz not landing any meaningful shots this time. Munoz has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Bender is looking to control Munoz's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Bender avoid being mounted? Bender might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground. Munoz looks to land a strike but Bender avoids it nicely and regains full guard. Munoz with a flurry of punches that miss. Munoz stands up from guard. Let's bang! Horrible takedown by Bender or perhaps it was just good defense by Munoz which made him look bad. Munoz feints with a shoulder and throws a nice leg kick to Bender's calf. Munoz fails to land the takedown. Munoz tries to clinch but Bender moves away and Bender counters by moving into the clinch. Munoz prevents the takedown attempt.
Bender is breathing heavily. Bender breaks the clinch.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Munoz looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily. Munoz shoots for a double leg takedown but Bender sprawls well. He's pushed Munoz's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily. Bender throws a leg kick but Munoz moved away. Munoz throws a jab to the body, straight down the pipe. Boom. That sent Bender stumbling backwards but he manages to regain his composure quickly. Munoz with a lazy takedown attempt and Bender holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch. Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Bender breaks the clinch.
Bender scores with a nice one two combo and darts back out of range to avoid anything coming in the opposite direction. Bender closes this distance looking for a takedown but Munoz circles away. As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Munoz swats away the attempt to clinch by Bender. Munoz tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Bender defends well and Munoz ends up having to push Bender into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Mark Munoz dominated that round. That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.
The fighters are starting to get sweaty, which will make takedowns a bit more tricky. Munoz shoots in for a double leg but Bender sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy. Munoz changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Bender tries to avoid it but Munoz manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Bender to the ground. Bender escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet. Bender shoots in for a takedown but Munoz shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet. Bender pushes Munoz up against the cage in a clinch. Munoz is trying to pull guard but Bender turns him against the cage and we stay in the clinch. Munoz is looking to clinch. Munoz stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Munoz wants it to stay on the feet. Munoz is looking to clinch. Bender clinches up with Munoz and pushes him back against the cage. Munoz is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Bender pulls him back up using the underhooks. Bender tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Munoz smiles and moves away.

An inside leg kick lands from Munoz. Munoz displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Bender. Munoz fakes the leg kick and cracks Bender in the body. Munoz shoots in and drives through. Bender sprawls well.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Munoz tries to clinch up and Bender counters by clinching up. Munoz misses with a hook to the ribs.
Bender tries to land a knee to the body but he is off balance and Munoz avoids it. Bender drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Munoz gets the underhooks and prevents it.

The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end. Munoz manages to pull guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round. Munoz stands up from half guard... He's had enough of that ground malarky for the time being. Munoz fails with a takedown attempt from distance. Munoz tries to clinch but fails miserably and Bender moves into the clinch. Bender avoiding damage.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Bender has Munoz pushed against the cage. Wilber Bender has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here! Mark Munoz is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight. Munoz on the defensive, avoiding the knees to the body.
And that's the end of the fight! That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Wilber Bender. I think Munoz has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
