Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Mauro Stokes (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Keenan Dern (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Mauro Stokes! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Keenan Dern! The judges for this bout are Steve Erwin, Damien Edna and Skip Squint.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Dern closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth. Dern is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Stokes has escaped the position, nice work there. Dern scores with punches from side control. Dern is trying to get an arm triangle but Stokes is defending well. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Dern scoring with punches from side control. Dern tries for a kimura but Stokes is defending well. Dern looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything. Dern looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Dern postures up a little and throws a couple of hammerfists but they don't connect properly.
Stokes knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Dern on the ground.

Stokes tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Dern wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control. Dern thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead. Dern in side control, throwing shots but Stokes defends. The ground and pound from Dern seems to be hitting the mat more than his opponent. Dern working away diligently from side control. Landing strikes effectively there - that will score him some points on the judges scorecards.
Dern tries for a kimura but Stokes is defending well. Dern tries to land with some ground and pound but misses. Dern tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.
That's two minutes gone in the round. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Dern thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead. Stokes might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground. Dern looks winded! Stokes is trying to stand back up. He's worked his way up against the cage but Dern has just dragged him back down to the mat. Dern lands some shots froms side control. Dern working the ground and pound. Dern landing with strikes to the head and body from side control. Stokes is trying to get back to half guard. Stokes taking a bit of punishment here - Dern scoring with strikes. Stokes managing to avoid any damage from the strikes thrown by Dern.

That's three minutes gone in the round. Dern is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Stokes is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now. Stokes pushes Dern away and creates a bit of space to escape. He's almost out here... but no, Dern gets a good hold of his legs and remains firmly in side control. Stokes could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely. Dern working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it. Dern cracks Stokes with a big right hand but Stokes just smiles back at him and invites him to have another go.

Dern working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it. Stokes wants to escape from the position here - easier said than done! Dern working away. The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action! Dern landing strikes. Dern looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Keenan Dern dominated that round. That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.
Stokes gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here. Stokes tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.
Stokes tries to pull guard but Dern forces him back to his feet, against the cage. Dern has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Stokes is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet. Dern wants a takedown.
Dern has moved round to his opponent's back and is looking for a suplex! Oh snap! He's tossed Stokes clear over his head and slammed him to the mat! Dern tightening his grip on Stokes, looking for the choke. Dern scores with punches and elbows.
That's one minute gone in the round. Dern is persistently looking for the submission but Stokes is defending it well.
Dern is breathing heavily. Dern working for the choke. Stokes avoids the strikes from Dern. Stokes looking to stop the rear naked choke attempt by controlling the hands. Dern punishes Stokes with strikes from the back mount. Dern is staying calm and holding on to the back position, whilst working on a rear naked choke. Stokes is defending well though. Dern let's go of the attempt for now. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Dern patiently working for the choke. Which fighter will keep their nerve here?
That's two minutes gone in the round. Stokes grimaces as he takes a shot to the body. Stokes preventing the rear naked choke attempt from Dern. Dern is trying to stick to Stokes's back but Stokes is turning into Dern. He's managed to reverse the position - now he's in Dern's guard. Polite applause from the crowd in appreciation of some nice Jiu Jitsu by Stokes. Dern has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Stokes can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself. Stokes in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time. Stokes drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Dern manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Stokes has Dern in his guard. Stokes is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Dern is controlling him.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Dern distracts Stokes with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm. Dern throwing strikes from guard but Stokes blocks nicely. Dern is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact. Dern throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent. Stokes throwing his legs up looking for a triangle.
Dern distracts Stokes with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm. Dern keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Stokes's head. Dern lands a couple of digs.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Dern drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Dern jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position. Dern connects with a couple of short punches. Dern stands up over Stokes, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head. This has been an exciting period of action! Dern drops back looking for a leg! Stokes is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Stokes manages to kick Dern off! Dern jumps back into Stokes's guard. Dern drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Stokes manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Dern has Stokes in his guard. Stokes content to strike from guard, landing some decent shots. The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action! Stokes postures up and lands a big shot to Dern's brow. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Keenan Dern showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards. The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! This is the final round!
Stokes tries to close the distance and clinch but Dern swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away. Dern tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Stokes swivels and escapes. Stokes tries to clinch up but Dern circles away and keeps his distance. Stokes shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Dern sprawls well. Dern wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Stokes gets slowly back to his feet. Ooooh, nice body kick lands from Stokes. Dern shrugs it off though. Stokes tries to clinch but Dern moves out of range. Dern tries to keep at a distance but Stokes has taken the fight into the clinch. Stokes jumps guard but Dern turns him against the cage and keeps the fight standing. Dern has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
That's one minute gone in the round. Stokes works for the underhooks and manages to get a trip takedown into guard. Stokes throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent. Dern has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan. Dern utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound. Dern uses the cage to get back to his feet.

Dern looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything. Stokes pushes Dern away and creates a bit of space to escape. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Dern lands a knee to the body and follows it up with some ground and pound to the head. That will wear Stokes down.
Dern is working to tighten his grip on Stokes's neck. He's isolated an arm and is working for an arm triangle. Stokes has recognised the danger and is trying to turn with the submission but Dern is really squeezing tight and eventually Stokes passes out! Dern breaks the hold and jumps onto the cage to celebrate! Submission of the night, I'd say!
