Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the featherweight championship of the world! Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Meguru Takayanagi! And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Kok Nos! The judges for this bout are Yukihiro Yamamoto, Shigeki Fujiwara and Taro Takaoka.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Nos falls off balance throwing a combination
and Takayanagi counters with a nice uppercut. A looping hook to the body misses from Nos. Takayanagi does a little dance to reset his feet. Nos has managed to clinch.
Takayanagi has Nos pressed against the ropes, preventing Nos from circling away and getting back to striking at range. Takayanagi is trying to trip Nos. He has hold of a leg but Nos is hopping around, keeping his balance for the moment. Takayanagi persists though and gets the takedown into guard. We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup. Takayanagi won't allow Nos to get back to his feet. The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring. Takayanagi throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Nos works some decent striking defense from the bottom. Takayanagi landing some decent shots from guard. Takayanagi is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.
That's one minute gone in the round. Takayanagi with a flurry of punches that miss. Nos is trying to keep Takayanagi in close.
The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves.
The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Kok Nos wasn't active enough on the ground. A solid leg kick lands there for Takayanagi.
Takayanagi shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Takayanagi showed some decent athleticism there. Takayanagi is nestled in close to Nos, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Takayanagi working the head and body with strikes. Takayanagi working the head and body with strikes. Nos really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Takayanagi. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. Takayanagi is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Takayanagi has hold of the far side arm. He's working for the Kimura, can Nos defend it? Takayanagi steps over the head and cranks it - Nos is tapping out! That was textbook stuff right there - nice submission victory for Takayanagi!
