Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Jimmie Wilcox! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Eduardo Acosta! The judges for this bout are Alexandre Firmino, Paulo Santos and Luis Engracia.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Acosta tries to grapple but his opponent circles and Wilcox decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Acosta's guard. The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up. Acosta is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
Wilcox really is a fat lump. Acosta wants to sweep here but Wilcox controlling him for the moment. Wilcox slips effortlessly into side control - very nice. Wilcox decides to stand up, so the ref orders Acosta to his feet. Wilcox gets a clinch. Acosta is trying to break the clinch but Wilcox is controlling him. This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Wilcox turns his back and goes for a hip toss. It's a bit messy but it gets the job done and Wilcox manages to end up in side control.
That's one minute gone in the round. Wilcox tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though. Acosta can't do much from the bottom here. Acosta is looking to reverse the position. Acosta really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Wilcox. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. Acosta is trying to work for a sweep but Wilcox has mounted him! Acosta wants to get back to his feet.
Wilcox takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though. Acosta tries to get back to half guard but can't.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Wilcox looking for a guillotine from mount but Acosta is having none of it. Acosta is trying desperately to improve position. Acosta looks winded! Wilcox takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though. Wilcox's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Wilcox seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Acosta for as long as he can get away with. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Acosta tries to get back to half guard but can't. Acosta throwing punches from his back but nothing is landing. Wilcox takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though. Acosta tries to control the position but Wilcox now has his back.
Wilcox really has the hooks in deep now - there seems like no escape for Acosta.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Wilcox looking for the RNC. Acosta takes a big shot to the side of the head.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Wilcox is working for a rear naked choke. Acosta is not defending it well and Wilcox has tightened it up quickly! This could be all over! Acosta refuses to tap and goes to sleep, forcing the referee to intervene. A little trickle of blood came out of Acosta's nose as his head slumped to the floor. That is naaaasty!
