Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Brian Johnson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Gareth Wilcox (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 6 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Brian Johnson!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 6 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Gareth Wilcox!
The judges for this bout are Thiago Cunha, Leandro Rodrigues and Emerson Jorge.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Johnson avoids the body shot from Wilcox.
Wilcox tries to clinch but Johnson moves away

and Johnson moves into the clinch.
Wilcox misses the knee to the body. Nice hip positioning from Johnson.
Wilcox displaying some good clinch control by pressing Johnson up against the cage.
Wilcox wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.
Wilcox is looking to score with knees to the body. Maybe he'll change it up and go body then head. Johnson is defending well for now.
Wilcox lands a nice shot to the body.
With the fighters clinched against the cage, Wilcox creates a bit of distance for himself and scores with a nice uppercut.
Johnson is trying to drag Wilcox to the mat but Wilcox just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.

Wilcox is trying to stall.

Johnson definitely looks more muscular than last time we saw him fight.
Johnson has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Wilcox avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.

Wilcox escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Johnson shoots in for a takedown but Wilcox shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.

and Johnson counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Johnson.
Johnson is trying to pull guard but being pressed up against the cage enables Wilcox to keep the fight standing.

Johnson wants the takedown. Wilcox is fighting it off but Johnson persists and manages to bring the fight to the ground, ending up in Wilcox's guard against the cage.
It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.

Wilcox wants to sweep here but Johnson controlling him for the moment.

Johnson makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard.

Johnson is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Wilcox is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Wilcox has escaped and now he's on top!
Wilcox told us pre-fight that he has been working on his escapes in training. Let's see if he can call on some of his new skills to get back to his feet.

The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Johnson working for a triangle but Wilcox defends it easily.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Johnson utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.

The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


Johnson shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Wilcox but Wilcox pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Wilcox doesn't manage to clinch there - Johnson circles away.
Both fighters are looking to counter, which isn't making for the most exciting fight in the world.
Johnson fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.

Wilcox tries to grapple but his opponent circles

Johnson postures up a little and throws a couple of hammerfists but they don't connect properly.
Johnson creates a bit of distance and throws down some hard shots.
Johnson has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Wilcox struggling a bit here.

Johnson is trying to get an arm triangle but Wilcox is defending well.
Johnson sitting in side control, looking to soften his opponent up with elbows and hammerfists but Wilcox is avoiding damage well and looking to escape the position.
Johnson throwing strikes but Wilcox manages to buck up and roll into a nice reversal - now he's on top in side control!
Brian Johnson overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Johnson is looking to regain half guard here but Wilcox keeps moving and retains side control.
Johnson is trying to get back to half guard. He's pushing on Wilcox's leg. He's managed it. Nice work.

Wilcox stops Johnson from getting back to his feet.
Johnson regains full guard. Nicely done.
Wilcox wants to control from the top but Johnson keeps moving.

Johnson has his foot on Wilcox's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Wilcox works his way back into a safe position though.

Johnson has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Wilcox can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Wilcox throws a right hand that Johnson ducks under and follows up with a left that Johnson also avoids with ease.

Johnson is working for a takedown up against the cage. He can't get it on this occasion though.

Wilcox escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Wilcox tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Johnson darts in looking for a takedown but Wilcox gets double underhooks and turns Johnson into the cage.
A real battle for position is taking place between these two warriors.

Johnson has dropped down and is looking to force the takedown but it's defended by Wilcox after a bit of a struggle.
Johnson is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Wilcox pulls him back up using the underhooks.
Gareth Wilcox seems to be working more effectively in the clinch in the fight so far.
Wilcox tries a shoulder strike but it doesn't do any damage.
Wilcox landing knees to the body.
Wilcox lands a right uppercut that snaps the head of Johnson backwards.
Johnson wants to take the fight to the mat but Wilcox manages to get underhooks and keep the fight in the clinch.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Wilcox is working on a leg, looking for a takedown but Johnson is defending well.
Wilcox trying to control the position but instead, Johnson has worked for underhooks and has pushed Wilcox into the cage.
Wilcox has had enough of the clinch and is looking to separate.

Gareth Wilcox comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Wilcox has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
