Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Paul Smith (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Solomon Obasi (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Smith's entrance music is call to prayer. A fine choice. Obasi has chosen Overkill as his entrance music. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
16 - 8 - 0, fighting out of London, Paul Smith! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
34 - 22 - 1, fighting out of Tokyo, Solomon Obasi! The judges for this bout are Shirou Masuda, Tatsuya Matsuyama and Yasuomi Hirokawa.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Smith misses with an uppercut. Obasi comes forward and lands a shot to the body, then darts back out of range. Donk. Smith catches Obasi right on the button with a cross. Obasi swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Obasi moves out of range as Smith strikes. Smith throws a nice outside leg kick. That kick from Obasi tenderised Smith's leg. Smith is trying to keep his angry face on. Obasi moves away from the strike by Smith. Smith takes a swing at Obasi's ribcage but misses. A lazy left from Smith finds it's target. Obasi has taken the fight to the clinch.
Smith throws a head punch that misses. Smith letting Obasi take a breather here. Smith misses with the head strike.
Smith breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat. Obasi moves away from the strike by Smith. Solomon Obasi seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Smith lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.
That's one minute gone in the round. Obasi staying out of range there. Smith blocks a head kick by Obasi.
Obasi uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Smith. A slow jab from Smith misses its intended target. Smith lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.
Smith takes a swing at Obasi's ribcage but misses. Smith ducks low and lands a nice hook to the body of his opponent. Obasi blocks a jab. Smith throws a jab when Obasi was well out of range. Smith misses with a wild body shot. Obasi instigates a clinch. Obasi blocks a punch to the side of the head.

That's two minutes gone in the round. Obasi taking a breather. Smith working some nice short punches in the clinch. Smith tries a body shot but Obasi blocks it.

Smith is trying to maintain a safe position but Obasi gets an underhook and turns Smith into the ropes. The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! Smith tries to throw a body punch but Obasi avoids it by throwing Smith back against the ropes. Smith misses with a hook from the clinch. Smith scores with an uppercut up the middle. Obasi blocks a body shot from Smith. A nice left hand lands by Smith.

That's three minutes gone in the round. Obasi tries to throw a body punch but Smith avoids it by throwing Obasi back against the ropes. A head punch blocked on the inside by Obasi. A real battle for position is taking place between these two warriors. The two fighters are working to gain dominance in the clinch. I was talking to Smith's coach per-fight and he was telling me that they'd been working on the clinch in the runup to this fight. Obasi blocks an uppercut.
A quick uppercut on the inside from Smith. With the fighters clinched against the ropes, Smith creates a bit of distance for himself and scores with a nice uppercut. Obasi pressing his opponent against the ropes. A nice left hand lands by Smith.
Obasi blocks a body shot from Smith. Smith tries to land a shot to the body but it's blocked. Both guys are working to get underhooks. Smith tries a shoulder strike but it doesn't do any damage. Obasi controlling the action here for a moment.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Smith misses with a body punch.
Smith tries to break the clinch but Obasi is controlling the position. Obasi is trying to slow down the pace in the clinch, to catch his breath. Obasi blocks an uppercut.
Smith is trying to push Obasi away but Obasi has him pressed against the ropes, so he's going nowhere. Obasi displaying some good clinch control by pressing Smith up against the ropes. Smith lands punches inside but they're not really causing much damage. As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Smith misses with a hook to the ribs.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Paul Smith dominated that round. The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.
Smith misses with a two punch combination.
Obasi fakes a couple of low kicks, before throwing one on the third attempt. It connects and Smith has to reset his feet before getting ready to engage. Smith lands with a cross. Obasi fakes a jab and throws a low kick but Smith checks it well. Obasi connects with an inside leg kick. Smith looks to score with a jab to the body but Obasi is just out of range. Smith loads up on a big right hand but Obasi slips the punch. Smith connects with a slap. Keep your fist closed son. Smith moving in and out of range nicely, whilst landing the scoring shot. Paul Smith is winning the standup battle so far. A big left from Smith misses. Obasi connects with an inside leg kick. Obasi keeping his hands up high there, blocking the jab from Smith. Obasi misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.

A solid leg kick lands there for Obasi.
This has been an exciting period of action! Smith throws a nice hook to the body that draws an oooh from the crowd.

and Smith counters with a nice uppercut. Smith fakes a jab and throws a low kick but Obasi checks it well. Smith looks to score with a jab to the body but Obasi is just out of range. Obasi throws a leg kick but he was too far away and it doesn't land. Smith throws a big shot that misses. Obasi uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Smith.

A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Obasi. Obasi connects with an inside leg kick. A nice inside leg kick there by Obasi. That's going to slow Smith down. Smith misses with an uppercut
and Obasi counters with a nice double leg into half guard. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Obasi wants to pass to mount but Smith is defending the position.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult. Obasi seems to be working for a kimura but Smith defends the submission attempt. Obasi is thwarting Smith's attempts to control the position. Obasi prevents Smith from improving his position. Obasi is keen to just control but Smith is a slippery customer. Obasi blocks the strikes from Smith.
Obasi controlling the action here. Obasi is looking to take a break and control but Smith is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Obasi controlling the pace.
The ref stands the fighters back up. Solomon Obasi was stalling too much, according to the referee. Smith swinging wildly here.
Smith moves out of range of the leg kick from Obasi. Smith swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Smith throws a leg kick but Obasi checks it. Obasi turns his hip over beautifully as he lands a nice leg kick. Smith cracks the inside of Obasi's front leg. Obasi tries to clinch up but Smith circles away and keeps his distance. Obasi keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.

That's four minutes gone in the round. Smith is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Obasi. Obasi connects with an inside leg kick. Smith throws a shot to the body.
Smith throws a nice outside leg kick. This has been an exciting period of action! Well, he's not going to score with shots like that. A lazy body kick attempt from Obasi. Smith lands with a cross. Smith changes levels and scores with a jab to the body. Smith just misses with a punch to the body.

The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action! A chopping leg kick lands by Obasi. Obasi drops his hands momentarily and Smith takes advantage with a crisp shot to the head. Paul Smith is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs. Nice cross by Smith. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
That was a close second round but I would say that Paul Smith will probably get the nod. The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! This is the final round!

The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring. Obasi prevents Smith from improving his position. Smith is concentrating on defense, preventing Obasi from advancing position. Obasi is thwarting Smith's attempts to control the position.
That's one minute gone in the round. The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup. Obasi trying to control the action but Smith is working from the bottom. Smith is in trouble now - Obasi has advanced to mount! Smith tries to get back to half guard but can't. Obasi goes for an armbar but he's not got it… Smith turns into him and now he's in Obasi's guard.
Smith slips effortlessly into side control - very nice. Obasi prevents Smith from improving position.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Obasi is looking for a sweep. Obasi is trying to work for a sweep but Smith has mounted him! The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves. Smith moves into side control, trying to work for a kimura. That looks painful! Will he finish!!?? No, Obasi has worked his arm free - good work by Obasi!
Obasi regains half guard. Solomon Obasi has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here! Obasi is refusing to be controlled, as Smith sits in half guard. This has been an exciting period of action! Obasi moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Obasi is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Smith is aware though and is defending well. Obasi looking for submissions from the bottom but instead Smith passes into half guard.
Smith looking to pass the half guard. Not this time. Obasi on the receiving end of some nice ground and pound. Smith is looking to take a break and control but Obasi is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom. Obasi moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Obasi manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Smith manages to get himself to full guard.
Obasi looking to pass the guard. Smith controls Obasi momentarily but Obasi frees himself. Smith keeping full guard, as Obasi tries to pass. As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Smith manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!

And that's the end of the fight! Solomon Obasi comfortably won the final round on my scorecard. I think Smith has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
