PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Lou Peters (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Tork Mendez (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Tork Mendez will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Lou Peters!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Tork Mendez!
The judges for this bout are Summer Carpenter, Eliza Hachem and Skip Squint.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Peters shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Peters showed some decent athleticism there.
We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.
Mendez is looking to improve his position.
Mendez is pressing down on Peters's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.
Peters lands a couple of elbows.
Peters controls from within his opponent's guard.

Mendez escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Peters gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Mendez is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Mendez looking to hit a scissor sweep but Peters is one step ahead there.

Mendez looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Peters is stalling in the full guard.

Mendez wriggles free and stands up.
Mendez misses with a series of wild punches.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Peters keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
Mendez tries to clinch but Peters moves out of range.

Peters gets the takedown into side control.
Mendez is trying to get back to half guard.
Peters throws a strike aimed at the side of Mendez's head but Mendez avoids it well.
Mendez holding on.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Mendez prevents Peters from improving position.
Mendez is looking to reverse the position.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Mendez takes a nasty elbow to the side of the head.
Peters tries to stand but Mendez is controlling his head.
Mendez is looking to regain half guard here but Peters keeps moving and retains side control.
Mendez is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Peters working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.
Mendez tries to improve position but can't.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Mendez wants to control but Peters postures up.
Peters tries to stand but Mendez is controlling his head.
Peters really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Mendez is trying to get back to half guard. He's pushing on Peters's leg. He's managed it. Nice work.
Peters missing with some ground and pound from the half guard.
Mendez trying to control from the bottom.
Mendez tries to roll over but Peters keeps him under control.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Mendez moves into full guard.
Peters has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Mendez is proving hard to escape from.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Tork Mendez will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.



Peters gets a clinch.

Peters pulls Mendez into guard.
Peters controls Mendez momentarily but Mendez frees himself.

Peters had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Mendez defends it easily.
Mendez trying to control but Peters is working from the bottom.
Mendez works a leg free and moves into half guard.
Mendez trying to control from half guard but Peters is working away.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Mendez wants to pass to mount but Peters is defending the position.
Mendez is trying to control the action in half guard but Peters is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.
The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.
Mendez looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Peters with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.
Mendez throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.
Peters is trying to stand.
Peters is trying to control but can't.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Mendez slows the pace down in half guard.
Mendez works his way into full mount!

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Mendez looking to control but Peters is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.
Peters can't escape the position.
Mendez wants to control the pace but Peters is squirming around nicely.
Peters wants to hold on but Mendez pushes him away.
Mendez fakes a shot to the body and cracks his opponent in the head. Nice ground and pound there!

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Peters is working to get back to half guard.

Mendez is going oldschool here, as he tries to force Peters to tap using a forearm choke. This isn't 1993 though, so Peters shrugs it off.
Mendez cracks Peters with a nasty head shot there - the crowd let out an audible gasp there, as the noise reverberated around the arena.
Peters tries to lock up and control but Mendez gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.
Peters trying desperately to get to his feet.
Mendez controlling from mount.
Mendez working away from the top, dropping strikes.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Mendez lands a couple of good shots and Peters has given up his back, trying to escape the position!
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Mendez struggling to land strikes to the head as Peters covers up.
Mendez trying desperately to keep hold of the dominant position.
Mendez is working the ground and pound here and the referee is taking a close look at Peters. He must escape soon or this one will be stopped.
Mendez tries to keep control of the position but Peters is staying busy.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Mendez lands with a big left hand that may well have hurt his opponent. Can Peters hold on?!


Peters is rocked!
Peters covers up after that shot from Mendez.
Oh Peters is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!!

Mendez has got one arm under Peters's chin. This could be trouble... Peters trying to control the other hand but Mendez gets it free and sqeezes tight - just a matter of time now! Yep, Peters has tapped out! The fight is over!
