Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Merlin Curtis (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Barret Smith (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Merlin Curtis has a significant reach advantage - let's see if he can make it count.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Merlin Curtis!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Barret Smith!
The judges for this bout are Chris Downing, Tiny Johnson and Frank Dennis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Smith gets in close and instigates a clinch.
Curtis really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Smith is looking for a takedown.
Curtis prevents Smith from breaking the clinch.

Curtis has clasped his hands together around Smith's back... aaand, he's got a takedown into side control. Nicely done.
Curtis remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while.
Curtis tries to advance to mount but can't.
Smith tries to get back to half guard but can't.
Smith takes an elbow right on the bridge of the nose and winces in pain.
Curtis wants to stand but Smith is controlling his arm.

Smith prevents Curtis from moving into mount.
Smith takes a couple of big shots there - the referee warns him that he has to defend himself better.
Curtis landing with strikes to the head and body from side control.
You can see the frustration on Smith's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.

Smith is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard.
Curtis tries to stand but can't do so whilst Smith controls his leg.
Smith is looking to improve his position.
Curtis takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.
Smith is refusing to be controlled, as Curtis sits in half guard.

We're going to have a standup here because Merlin Curtis wasn't active enough for the referee's liking.
Curtis throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.

Smith fakes a head punch and goes low to the body. Nicely done.
Smith fails in his attempt to clinch.
Smith shoots in but Curtis avoids the takedown attempt easily.

Curtis shoots in and gets a takedown into Smith's guard.
Curtis controls the pace of the fight for a moment.

Smith is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Curtis is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.

The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.
Smith keeping moving, preventing Curtis from controlling successfully.

Merlin Curtis has forced the referee to step in and bring the fight back to the feet.

Curtis scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Curtis goes for an armbar! This could be all over! Wait, no, Smith rolls with the submission and now he's on top in Curtis's guard! Nice work there by Smith!
Curtis will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Curtis manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Smith manages to get himself to full guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Curtis manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Smith on his heels. He'll look to pass Smith's guard now, I'm sure.

Smith is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Curtis accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

Smith is looking to stand up but Curtis isn't so interested in that idea.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.

Curtis closes the distance and clinches.
Curtis prevents Smith from breaking the clinch.

Curtis has picked Smith up - he's going for a ride! Curtis dumps his opponent to the mat with a thud and settles into half guard.
The referee calls for the fighters to work.
Smith wants to improve his position but Curtis is controlling well.
Smith keeps trying to improve his position.

Curtis seems to be working for a kimura but Smith defends the submission attempt.

If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.
Smith lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Curtis!

Curtis wants to improve his position but Smith is controlling well.

Smith avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Curtis not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.

Some wild striking there from Smith.

Curtis is trying to control Smith's posture but Smith avoids it.

Curtis tries to buck Smith off but Smith is having none of it.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.

No luck with that takedown attempt from Smith.
Smith moves in looking to clinch but Curtis pushes him off.

and Curtis counters with a nice double leg into half guard.
Curtis prevents Smith from improving his position.
Smith wants to control but Curtis is keeping busy and won't allow it.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Curtis lands a nice short elbow.

Smith makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Smith.
Curtis distracts Smith with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm.
Curtis passes easily into side control. Nice work.
Smith is looking to reverse the position.
Curtis tries to get to his feet but he's trapped momentarily.
Smith struggling a bit here.
Smith takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Curtis wants to stand but Smith is controlling his arm.

Smith is pushing Curtis's head away, looking to escape. Curtis manages to hold on to the position though.

Barret Smith has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Merlin Curtis is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Smith is trying to strike from the bottom but Curtis has passed into full mount.

And that's the end of the fight!

Well I reckon that's a shut out for Curtis, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
