Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Angel Santiago (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Brantley Gilbert (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
3 - 2 - 0, fighting out of New York, Angel Santiago! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Brantley Gilbert! The judges for this bout are Bruno Lombardi, Jonathan Paton and Joseph Jones.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Santiago fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Gilbert avoids it really well and circles away. Santiago doesn't succeed with the takedown and Gilbert cracks him with a counter punch right on the button. Santiago misses with a takedown attempt - Gilbert sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Angel Santiago. That's going to take a lot out of him. Gilbert shoots in looking for a takedown but Santiago manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Gilbert's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away. Gilbert tries to score a power double leg takedown but Santiago sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Gilbert somewhat. Santiago has a takedown stuffed. Gilbert throws a sloppy head kick and Santiago counters with a body kick. Gilbert fails to land the takedown. Santiago really is a fat lump. Gilbert is looking to score with low kicks. Santiago throws a head kick but Gilbert moves out of range.

Santiago tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Gilbert defends well and Santiago ends up having to push Gilbert into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch. Gilbert softening up his opponent with strikes, against the cage. Gilbert gets double underhooks to prevent a takedown attempt from Santiago.
Gilbert ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Gilbert no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard. Gilbert is trying to control the position but Santiago postures up. Santiago has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player. Gilbert wants to sweep here but Santiago controlling him for the moment. Gilbert is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent. Gilbert keeping moving, preventing Santiago from controlling successfully.
OK we're going to have a standup here. Brantley Gilbert hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart. Gilbert dives in for a single leg takedown but Santiago sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Gilbert tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Santiago smiles and moves away.
Gilbert looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Santiago is fending him off so far but Gilbert persists. Nope, Santiago circles away and we're back to standing. Santiago displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Gilbert. Santiago tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Gilbert manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat. Gilbert tries to clinch but Santiago is having none of it. Gilbert shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Santiago as he jumps to the side. Gilbert looks winded! Santiago shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Gilbert manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.

Santiago wants to control from the top but Gilbert keeps moving. Santiago is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long. The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.
We're going to have a standup here because Angel Santiago wasn't active enough for the referee's liking. Santiago looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily. Santiago closes the distance and pushes Gilbert back into the cage. Gilbert is looking to break free of the clinch but Santiago has double underhooks.
That's four minutes gone in the round. A short right hand to the side of the head by Santiago. Gilbert jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Santiago walks away with a smile on his face. Gilbert gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head. Santiago fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Gilbert avoids it really well and circles away. Gilbert closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage. Santiago lands a knee to the body.
Gilbert's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does. Gilbert goes for a double leg but Santiago avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Santiago continues to drive forward. As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Santiago lands a knee to the head there! That was nasty!
Gilbert goes for a takedown in the clinch but Santiago prevents it.
Gilbert has hold of one of Santiago's legs. Santiago is fighting the takedown attempt but Gilbert gets the trip and lands the takedown into guard. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
A close round but Brantley Gilbert will probably get the nod. The cut man is working on Angel Santiago's cut. That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.
The fight stays on the outside here - Santiago looks like he's thinking about clinching though. Santiago gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily and Gilbert counters with a shoot takedown into half guard. Santiago might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground. Santiago has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Gilbert is working away from the top position though. Gilbert wants to lay and pray for a moment but Santiago keeps working. Gilbert is nestled in close to Santiago, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure. The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily. Gilbert works his foot free and advances to mount. Gilbert controlling the position easily from mount. Santiago wants to control but Gilbert is having none of it.
That's one minute gone in the round. Gilbert tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position. Santiago is desperately trying to improve his position but Gilbert has a good base and remains in mount. Santiago tries to hold on but Gilbert postures up. Santiago really trying hard to get back to half guard here.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Gilbert patiently working for the choke. Which fighter will keep their nerve here? Good control from Gilbert. Santiago looks to control his opponent's hands but he's not mananging it at the moment. The referee is taking a good look at Santiago as he is on the wrong end of some big shots from Gilbert!

Gilbert looking to break Santiago's wrist control so he can sink in the choke. Santiago remaining controlled and patient though - he really has to keep calm otherwise Gilbert will wrap this one up with the rear naked choke! Gilbert controls the position. Brantley Gilbert has got the better of the ground game so far. Gilbert working for the choke.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Santiago trying to control the hands but Gilbert won't let him. Santiago tries to escape the position - he's now mounted. Is that better or worse? Hard to tell! Gilbert wants to control the pace but Santiago is squirming around nicely. The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Brantley Gilbert showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards. The cut man is working on Angel Santiago's cut. The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. Let's get this one finished - here comes the final round!

Gilbert content to sit in half guard and control for a moment. The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Gilbert connects with a nice short shot to Santiago's temple. The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! Gilbert is trying to control. Santiago wants to improve his position but can't escape this time. It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup. The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Gilbert lands a nice short elbow.

Angel Santiago has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here! Brantley Gilbert is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight. Gilbert slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.
