Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Mauricio Molina! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Prohor Potapov! The judges for this bout are Igor Prikhodko, Valeri Chadov and Sergei Dronov.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Potapov fails to land the takedown. Jab from Molina. Molina tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Potapov swivels and escapes. Molina lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.
Molina shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Potapov sprawls well. Potapov wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Molina gets slowly back to his feet. Potapov looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily. Molina displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Potapov. Mauricio Molina has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Prohor Potapov. Molina throws a right hand that Potapov ducks under and follows up with a left that Potapov also avoids with ease. Molina throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Potapov.
That's one minute gone in the round. Molina stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Molina wants it to stay on the feet. Molina fails to land the takedown. Potapov tries for a takedown but Molina circles away easily and Molina counters with a straight punch to the midsection. Potapov shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Molina pinned against the cage. Molina gets the underhooks and manages to circle away. Prohor Potapov seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Potapov looks winded! Potapov slips a jab and a cross from Molina.
Potapov looks for a takedown but Molina sprawls well. Potapov changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Molina tries to avoid it but Potapov manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Molina to the ground. Molina escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Molina tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Potapov defends well and Molina ends up having to push Potapov into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch. Molina's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does. Potapov fails with the takedown. Molina closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Molina lands in his opponent's guard. The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work. Molina drops back for a leg here. A bit of a high risk move... He's looking for a kneebar by the looks of things. Now both of them are looking for submissions. Molina seems to have locked his on tight now - Potapov screams in pain and taps out furiously! It certainly was a high risk move but it's paid off for Molina, as he picks up the win!
