The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Pereira fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Fuentes sprawls well initially but Pereira persists and gets the takedown into half guard. Pereira controlling the action here. Pereira scoring with strikes to the body and head. Pereira thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Fuentes's head. Pereira wants to free his trapped foot but Fuentes is holding on for dear life with his legs. Pereira is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen. Fuentes missing with punches from the bottom.

Jorge Pereira has forced the referee to step in and restart the fight on the feet. Pereira gets the takedown into side control. Pereira tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Pereira has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought! Fuentes regains half guard. Pereira seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense. Pereira wants to take a breather but Fuentes is having none of it.

Fuentes is desperately trying to improve his position but Pereira has a good base and remains in mount. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Pereira looking for an armbar but decides to keep the dominant position instead. This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Pereira wants to control the action but instead Fuentes gets a body lock and reverses into Pereira's guard! Nice work! Fuentes wanted to stand there but Pereira had control of the position. Pereira is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Pereira controls Fuentes momentarily but Fuentes frees himself. Fuentes knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Pereira on the ground. Fuentes wants to get up but he can't break Pereira's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here. Pereira lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Fuentes! Pereira is thinking about an arm triangle here, looking to tighten it up before moving to side control. Fuentes can see it coming though and defends well with a couple of strikes to the head and some good arm positioning.

Fuentes is looking to stand up but Pereira won't let him. Jorge Pereira has got the better of the ground game so far. Pereira is trying to control the position from the bottom.

Fuentes is aware though and is defending well. Pereira has a closed guard, preventing Fuentes from standing up. Pereira is pulling down on Fuentes's head. It's preventing any offense from Fuentes, at least for the moment. Fuentes is looking to stand up but Pereira won't let him.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Fuentes wants to stand and escape but instead Pereira has hit a sweep and he's now on top in guard. Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here. Pereira postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head. Pereira trying to control the position from guard on top but Fuentes is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Pereira controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
OK we're going to have a standup here. Jorge Pereira hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart. Fuentes tries to sprawl but Pereira drives through with a takedown into half guard.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Pereira not landing any meaningful shots this time. Pereira seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Fuentes does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back. Pereira might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Fuentes haven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time. Pereira is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
Pereira seems like he's working for an arm triangle here. He's freed his trapped foot and he's rotating nicely. Fuentes is in big trouble! He's tapping out! This one is aaaaaaaaaaaall over!
