Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Douglass Whitaker (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Simon Dejonckheere (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Douglass Whitaker!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Simon Dejonckheere!
The judges for this bout are Matheus Silva, Thiago Cunha and Felipe Paraventi.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Dejonckheere shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Whitaker is trying to defend but Dejonckheere finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Whitaker tries to roll over but Dejonckheere keeps him under control.

The ref stands the fighters back up because Douglass Whitaker just wasn't active enough.
Dejonckheere wants to clinch up but Whitaker keeps it at a distance.

Dejonckheere feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
Dejonckheere postures up in Whitaker's guard and throws a big left but Whitaker blocks it.

Dejonckheere stands and steps away. Whitaker gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Whitaker enables Dejonckheere to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Whitaker manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.
Whitaker might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Whitaker wants to stand and escape but Dejonckheere is having none of it.
Whitaker is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control.

Whitaker is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Dejonckheere is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.

Whitaker wants to stand and escape but Dejonckheere is having none of it.
Whitaker is trying to hold Dejonckheere in close to prevent damage but Dejonckheere has managed to pass into half guard.
The referee calls for the fighters to work.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Whitaker is staying active underneath Dejonckheere, who seems content to just control the action from this position.

The ref stands the fighters back up, due to lack of action by Simon Dejonckheere.

Dejonckheere shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Whitaker manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

and Dejonckheere counters with a good low kick that Whitaker was not able to check.

and Whitaker takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Whitaker wants to clinch
and Dejonckheere counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.


It looks like Douglass Whitaker has been cut.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Dejonckheere closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Dejonckheere lands in his opponent's guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The cut man is working on Douglass Whitaker's cut.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


Dejonckheere avoids the clinch attempt nicely.

Dejonckheere looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.

Dejonckheere stands and throws Whitaker's legs to the side, diving into side control.
Whitaker looking for a sweep but Dejonckheere has passed into full mount! Oh no!

Dejonckheere trying desperately to keep hold of the dominant position.

Dejonckheere is persistently looking for the submission but Whitaker is defending it well.
Whitaker controlling the position well but he knows he's in a bad position.
Dejonckheere is trying to stick to Whitaker's back but Whitaker is turning into Dejonckheere. He's managed to reverse the position - now he's in Dejonckheere's guard. Polite applause from the crowd in appreciation of some nice Jiu Jitsu by Whitaker.
Dejonckheere is pulling down on Whitaker's head. It's preventing any offense from Whitaker, at least for the moment.

Dejonckheere is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage.
Whitaker postures up in Dejonckheere's guard and throws a big left but Dejonckheere blocks it.

Whitaker got a little sloppy there for a moment and Dejonckheere has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Whitaker has managed to get both his arms back between Dejonckheere's legs - danger averted.
Dejonckheere is breathing heavily.

Dejonckheere escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Whitaker gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Simon Dejonckheere has got the better of the ground game so far.

Whitaker throws an elbow that misses. Dejonckheere uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Whitaker's guard. Nice move by Dejonckheere!

Simon Dejonckheere showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

That's time! Whitaker's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. This is the final round!


Dejonckheere circles away from the clinch attempt
and Dejonckheere counters with a big head kick but Whitaker shrugs it off.

and Dejonckheere counters with a flying knee that drops Whitaker! Dejonckheere dives in and finishes the fight with a flurry of strikes from the mount!
