Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Keneth Callahan! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Anderson Moreno! The judges for this bout are Emerson Jorge, Seu Braga and Felipe Paraventi.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Moreno closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Callahan to the mat! Callahan manages to get full guard. Callahan really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape. We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace. Callahan has his foot on Moreno's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Moreno works his way back into a safe position though. Moreno controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling. Callahan escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Moreno gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance. Moreno prevents Callahan from getting back to his feet. Callahan keeping full guard, as Moreno tries to pass. Callahan has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall. Moreno won't allow Callahan to get back to his feet.
That's one minute gone in the round. Callahan utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound. Moreno stands up from guard. Let's bang! Callahan throws a leg kick but he was too far away and it doesn't land. Callahan gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Moreno to score an easy takedown into full guard. Moreno looking to pass the guard. Moreno distracts Callahan with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm. Moreno is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Moreno stands and steps away. Callahan gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game. Donk. Moreno catches Callahan right on the button with a cross. Moreno misses with a wild combination.
Moreno wants to clinch. This has been an exciting period of action! Moreno lands a jab followed by a nice looking cross.
Callahan drops his hands momentarily and Moreno takes advantage with a crisp shot to the head. Callahan walks into a stiff left hand from Moreno.
Callahan is rocked!
That's three minutes gone in the round. Moreno moves into range and clinches up with Callahan. Oh Callahan is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!! Moreno is trying to drag Callahan to the mat but Callahan just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there. Moreno is looking for a takedown up against the cage. Callahan gets underhooks though and prevents the takedown attempt. Callahan tries to break free but Moreno pushes him back against the cage. Callahan seems to have got his legs back now. Moreno fails to pull guard.
Keneth Callahan has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Anderson Moreno. Moreno looks winded! Moreno tried to land a shot to the body but connects with Callahan's elbow. Moreno is working on a leg, looking for a takedown but Callahan is defending well. The referee calls for Callahan to work.
Moreno scores with a shot to the side of Callahan's head. Callahan fails to pull the fight into his guard.
Callahan's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does. Moreno circles away from the clinch attempt.
Moreno darts in and clinches Callahan up against the cage.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Moreno jumps guard but Callahan stands there with Moreno around his waist. Moreno gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.
Moreno tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Callahan smiles and moves away.
Moreno misses the shot to the body. Callahan shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Moreno's guard. The crowd are loving this. Great action here. Callahan missing there with some ground and pound from the guard. Callahan stands and throws Moreno's legs to the side, diving into side control. Callahan tries for a kimura but Moreno is defending well. As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Callahan in side control lands a nice looking series of punches and elbows. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Anderson Moreno dominated that round. The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.
Callahan misses with a leg kick and Moreno counters with a single leg into guard. Callahan didn't expect that. Moreno wants to stand but Callahan has a closed guard, so he can't escape. Moreno won't allow Callahan to sweep him here. There's a bit of a scramble here and now Callahan is on top in guard.
Moreno tries to land a sweep but no joy. Callahan slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
That's one minute gone in the round. Moreno wants to control the position but Callahan says "no thanks buddy" and passes to half guard. Callahan postures up and decides to stand up, from the half guard. The ref calls for Moreno to stand up. Moreno changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Callahan tries to avoid it but Moreno manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Callahan to the ground. Callahan escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet. Callahan closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Moreno did well to prevent Callahan getting side control. Moreno is breathing heavily. Moreno wants to control but Callahan is keeping busy and won't allow it. The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Callahan connects with a nice short shot to Moreno's temple. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Callahan wants to control but Moreno is keeping him busy. Moreno tries to get to full guard but Callahan has control of the leg. Callahan is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Callahan works his way into full mount! Callahan lands a big elbow. This has been an exciting period of action! Moreno is writhing around trying to get back to his feet. Callahan tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position. Moreno gets back to half guard.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Callahan is trying to control. Moreno wants to improve his position but can't escape this time. Callahan is working for a submission of some sort.
Callahan trying to control from half guard but Moreno is working away. Callahan keeping composed on the top, looking to control the action. Callahan looking to pass the half guard. Not this time. Moreno throws a strike from the bottom that misses.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Callahan stands up from half guard... He's had enough of that ground malarky for the time being. Moreno moves into the clinch. Moreno gets control of Callahan's arms and successfully pulls guard. Moreno will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back. Moreno preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage. Moreno has managed to wall walk up one of the corner posts to get back to his feet. Callahan is pushing him up against the cage, looking to control the position. Callahan jumps guard.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Moreno showing good wrestling skills to control the position. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Callahan working away from the bottom but not quite defensive enough there because Moreno has passed into half guard!
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Keneth Callahan dominated that second round. That's time! Callahan's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. This is the final round!
The crowd cheers as Moreno lands an impressive looking overhand right. Callahan doesn't seem phased though. Moreno tries to clinch but Callahan is having none of it. Callahan does a little shimmy and throws a leg kick. The leg kick missed by a considerable margin though, making him look a little bit silly for doing the shimmy. Moreno is looking to clinch. Callahan misses with a takedown and Moreno counters with a three punch combo that has Callahan backing up. Callahan nods at Moreno to acknowledge the strikes. Moreno lands a straight punch to the body, keeping Callahan at a distance.
Callahan is trying hard to land a takedown here. Moreno sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet. Moreno shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Callahan as he avoids it easily. Both fighters are breathing heavily. Moreno misses with a wild combination.
That's one minute gone in the round. Callahan throws a right and a left that both miss. Callahan fails with a takedown attempt from distance. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Keneth Callahan. That's going to take a lot out of him. Moreno tries to clinch but Callahan is having none of it. Moreno wants to clinch. Moreno will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts. Callahan closes the distance and clinches. Callahan gets double underhooks to prevent a takedown attempt from Moreno.
Moreno has dropped down and is working for a takedown. Callahan is trying to keep an underhook but Moreno manages to get the takedown into half guard. Callahan on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Callahan tries to get out of the position.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Callahan moves into full guard.
Callahan working for a triangle but Moreno defends it easily.
Moreno stands up from Callahan's guard - Moreno perhaps looking for a knockout. Moreno doesn't succeed with the takedown and Callahan counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Moreno's guard now.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Moreno trying to control the position.
Callahan is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions. Callahan preventing the sweep. Callahan scoring with some ground and pound. Moreno working for submissions but it's allowed Callahan to get to half guard.
Keneth Callahan overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far. Callahan looking to pass the half guard. Not this time.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Callahan passes the half guard and he's now in mount! Big trouble for Moreno! Callahan controlling from mount. Callahan blocks Moreno's feeble attempts to strike from the bottom. As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Callahan controlling from mount.
And that's the end of the fight! That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Keneth Callahan. I think Callahan has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
