Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
10 - 8 - 1, fighting out of St Petersburg, Zach Didion! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
10 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Alex Mercer! The judges for this bout are Dmitry Maklakov, Viktor Lagutenko and Sergei Dronov.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Mercer bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes. Didion will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Didion lands a jab. Then a cross. Then finally a nice hook to the body. Good work there by Didion. Didion tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Mercer paws at him with a jab and circles away. Didion looks to score with a combo but nothing lands. Didion is pinned up against the cage taking some big shots here. The referee is looking closely deciding whether he should stop the fight.

The crowd are loving this. Great action here. Didion rushes Mercer and presses him up against the cage. Didion misses with a knee to the head. Mercer dictating the pace here, as the fighters clinch against the cage. Didion tries to land knees in the clinch but Mercer avoids the damage to the body. Mercer has had enough of the clinch and is looking to separate. Mercer wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.

Didion blocks a low kick nicely. A jab from Mercer finds it's way through Didion's defenses. Mercer looking to throw a kick but he's pulled out of it. Didion has Mercer up against the cage in a clinch.

It looks like Alex Mercer has been cut. Didion using the Thai plumb to throw knees but Mercer has his back arched nicely, preventing the strike.

Mercer is pushing Didion up against the cage, for a bit of lean and pray action. Action being used the in the loosest possible sense of the word. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Didion throws a nice elbow but it doesn't land.
Mercer pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat. Mercer feints and then cracks Didion's leading leg with a nice low kick. He's obviously looking to slow Didion down. Mercer scores with a hook to the body. Didion takes a step back and tries to catch his breath. Didion swinging wildly here.

That's three minutes gone in the round. Didion shoots in and bounces Mercer off the cage to secure the takedown into guard. Didion trying to control but Mercer is working from the bottom. Didion tries to free his leg and advance position but Mercer is retaining full guard. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Mercer bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Didion's guard. Didion is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Mercer is controlling him. Didion might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground. Mercer slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Didion is looking to stand up but Mercer isn't so interested in that idea. Mercer sitting in guard, not really doing much. As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

That was a close round but I would say that Zach Didion will probably get the nod. The cut man is working on Alex Mercer's cut. OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.
Mercer lands a head kick!
A head kick by Didion misses and Mercer connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle. Mercer fakes a couple of low kicks, before throwing one on the third attempt. It connects and Didion has to reset his feet before getting ready to engage. A nice inside leg kick there by Mercer. That's going to slow Didion down. Mercer ducks right into an uppercut from Didion. Didion chopped to the floor by a nice leg kick but he springs right back up before Mercer can pounce on him.
Didion shuffles to his left behind two crisp jabs. Mercer eats them both and turns towards Didion to reposition himself and eats a stinging right hand-left hook combo. The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Mercer lands a beauty of a right hand that gets the crowd cheering.
Didion swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target. Didion definitely looks more muscular than last time we saw him fight. Didion lands a beauty of a right hand that gets the crowd cheering.
Mercer connects with a single shot there. Mercer motions for Didion to come forward. Mercer throws a leg kick but it misses it's target. Didion looking to throw a kick but he's pulled out of it. Didion throws a quick inside leg kick. Mercer has been working his punching technique in the buildup to the fight and it appears to be paying off. Didion lands a jab. Didion throws an overhand right that lands on Mercer's shoulder, as Mercer tries to avoid the shot.
That's one minute gone in the round. Didion throws a head kick that looked like it stung.

Alex Mercer is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs. Didion lands a big right hand and follows it up with an uppercut. Oh and another big punch and a knee - Mercer can't take much more of this! Another big shot to the jaw from Didion and Mercer drops to the floor. Beaten and bloodied - he had enough there. A vicious beatdown by Didion.
Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:21 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Zach Didion! Zach Didion got down on his knees post fight and begged the management for a title shot. 'Please, I want that title shot so bad! Give it to me!'
