Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
3 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Malcolm Ford! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Steven Death! The judges for this bout are Bruno Hogan, Damien Edna and Winston Howard.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Death fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Ford to the ground. Death is now in Ford's guard. Ford will have to put a bit more behind his punches if he's going to do any damage from this position.
Ford is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle. Death sitting in guard here, content to control. Ford might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground. Ford has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Death can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself. Death wants to control from the top but Ford keeps moving.
That's one minute gone in the round. Death stands up over Ford, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head. Death trying to control but Ford is working from the bottom. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
The ref stands the fighters back up, due to lack of action by Steven Death. Death shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Ford is trying to defend but Death finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further. Ford looking for submissions off his back.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Death stalling away here and it's allowed Ford to slip out his trapped foot and regain full guard. Ford looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Ford has a closed guard, preventing Death from standing up.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Death looking to improve position, pressing down on Ford's thigh with his hand. Ford seems to be working to lock up a guilotine though... is Death paying attention? Apparently not! He's locked it up tight! Death's face has turned purple! Will he tap? Will he! YES! He's tapped! Ford picked his opening and made it count! Great finish!
