The judges for this bout are Richard Clark, Paul Tew and James Ackerman.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

The Lion is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Rowland gets to his feet. The Lion looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Rowland has The Lion up against the cage in a clinch.

Bratt The Lion dominated that round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


Rowland throws a wild body kick that The Lion sees coming a mile off.
The Lion tries to close the distance and clinch but Rowland swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Rowland displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from The Lion.

Rowland clinches up with The Lion and pushes him back against the cage.
Rowland is trying to break the clinch but The Lion is controlling him.
Rowland fails to pull the fight into his guard.

Rowland pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Nice takedown defense from The Lion. No joy for Rowland on that attempt.
The Lion shoots for a takedown but Rowland saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.

Rowland could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.

Rowland moves into range and clinches up with The Lion.
The Lion lands a damaging elbow.
Rowland jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as The Lion walks away with a smile on his face. Rowland gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.

Rowland decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
The Lion preventing any damage for now, controlling his opponent's head.

The Lion has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Rowland is working away from the top position though.

The Lion on the receiving end of some nice ground and pound.
The Lion is trying to control but Rowland passes into side control!
The Lion takes a nasty elbow to the side of the head.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Rowland thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
Rowland throws a strike aimed at the side of The Lion's head but The Lion avoids it well.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Rowland working the ground and pound but he's contacting the mat, not the fighter.
The Lion is pushing Rowland's head away, looking to escape. Rowland manages to hold on to the position though.
The Lion is breathing heavily.

Rowland swings around for an armbar but The Lion sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into Rowland's guard.

The Lion stands up and waves to Rowland to follow him.

Rowland jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as The Lion walks away with a smile on his face. Rowland gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.
Rowland shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says The Lion as he avoids it easily.
Rowland takes a body kick right on the floating rib. Ouchie.
The Lion's corner calls for a 1, 2 combination and The Lion duly obliges.


It looks like Peter Rowland has been cut.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Rowland slowing the pace effectively.

Still in the clinch, The Lion scores with a nice short uppercut.

Rowland misses with a takedown attempt - The Lion sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Rowland tries to score a power double leg takedown but The Lion sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Rowland somewhat.

Rowland has had enough of the clinch and is looking to separate.

The Lion ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. The Lion no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.

Rowland looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? The Lion is fending him off so far but Rowland persists. Nope, The Lion circles away and we're back to standing.

Rowland closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. The Lion did well to prevent Rowland getting side control.
The Lion is looking for a sweep. Rowland is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.

Peter Rowland overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Rowland looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks The Lion with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Rowland seems to be working for a kimura but The Lion defends the submission attempt.

Peter Rowland has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Bratt The Lion is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.

That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Peter Rowland.
I think The Lion has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
