PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Sam Carrillo (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Daing Irfan (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Sam Carrillo!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Daing Irfan!
The judges for this bout are Seu Braga, Daniel Cesar and Leandro Rodrigues.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A nice combination there by Irfan.


It looks like Sam Carrillo has been cut.

Carrillo gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Irfan to score an easy takedown into full guard.
Carrillo looking to control the pace of the fight rather than finish it.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Irfan wants to get up but he can't break Carrillo's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.
Irfan wants to control from the top but Carrillo keeps moving.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Daing Irfan was stalling too much, according to the referee.
Carrillo has a takedown stuffed.
Irfan tries to land a leg kick but Carrillo saw it coming and moves away.

Irfan closes the distance and pushes Carrillo back into the cage.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Carrillo wants to improve his position but Irfan is controlling well.

Daing Irfan has forced the referee to step in and restart the fight on the feet.

Carrillo tries to sprawl but Irfan drives through with a takedown into half guard.

Carrillo wants to control but Irfan is keeping busy and won't allow it.

Irfan wants to pass to mount but Carrillo is defending the position.
Irfan is trying to control the action in half guard but Carrillo is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.
Still in half guard, Irfan seems content to control.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.

Irfan gets the takedown into side control.

A bit of a lull in the action. I'm sure it will pick up again soon... even if the ref has to physically pick them up and put them back on their feet.

Carrillo tries to hold on but Irfan pushes him away.
Carrillo is trying to stand up.

Irfan avoids the attempt from Carrillo to control.
Carrillo is bucking up trying to escape but Irfan cracks him with another couple of good strikes.

A nice elbow there by Irfan.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Carrillo reaches up to try and control the position but Irfan seems to have an arm triangle now! Uh oh! Carrillo rolls and tries to escape and now Irfan has his back!
Carrillo is breathing heavily.
Irfan tries to keep control of the position but Carrillo is staying busy.
Irfan cracks Carrillo with a big shot to body and one to the head - really punishing Carrillo from the back mount here, looking to soften him up.
Irfan connects with a series of strikes and the referee is calling for Carrillo to escape the position.

Irfan working for a RNC but it's not happening just yet.
Carrillo looking very determined here, making life difficult for Irfan.

The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Irfan has the hooks in. Carrillo is trying to push off one leg but he has to do so cautiously to avoid being submitted.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Carrillo is looking to reverse the position.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Carrillo is not content to let Irfan control the position.

Carrillo sneaks out the side door and pushes Irfan away - he's back to his feet. The crowd show their appreciation for the escape.

Irfan is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Carrillo's half guard.
Carrillo wants to control but Irfan passes into side.
Irfan has control of an arm but Carrillo manages to advance to Irfan's back!

I really don't envy Irfan right now.
Carrillo is not going to allow Irfan to sit and survive in this position.
Carrillo controlling well, preventing Irfan from escaping the position.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Irfan shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.

Irfan stands up over Carrillo, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.
Carrillo could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.

Irfan stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Carrillo swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Carrillo is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.
Carrillo has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall.

Irfan manages to capitalize on a mistake by Carrillo to take his back!

I really don't envy Carrillo right now.

Irfan has the hooks sunk in and you can see the will to fight slowly draining out of Carrillo's body.

Carrillo covers up after taking a massive shot to the side of the head.
Irfan has good solid back control here.
Carrillo rolls and manages to get back to half guard. Nicely done.
Irfan passes the half guard and he's now in mount! Big trouble for Carrillo!

Carrillo can't escape the position.
Carrillo wants to hold on but Irfan pushes him away.
Irfan has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

You know, I was talking to some of our celebrities at ringside tonight and they were split right down the middle on who was going to win this fight.
Carrillo looks to control his opponent's hands but he's not mananging it at the moment.
Sam Carrillo has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Daing Irfan is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Daing Irfan comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Irfan has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
