PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Norberto Oneil (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Bang Quintero (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Quintero has chosen Thunder horse as his entrance music. The crowd giving both fighters a great reception on their way into the arena. That's good to see.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Norberto Oneil!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Bang Quintero!
The judges for this bout are Don Winkell, and Jack Bonds.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Quintero stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Quintero wants it to stay on the feet.
Nice takedown defense from Quintero. No joy for Oneil on that attempt.
Oneil fails with the takedown.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Norberto Oneil. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Quintero pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Quintero fails to land the takedown.
Oneil tries to grapple but his opponent circles
and Quintero counters with a head kick. That will keep Oneil thinking before he tries any more sloppy attacks!
Quintero wants to clinch.
Quintero throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Oneil's waist but Oneil gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Quintero off to one side.
Quintero shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Oneil pinned against the cage. Oneil gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
A chopping leg kick lands by Quintero.

Oneil defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Quintero.
Oneil stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Oneil wants it to stay on the feet.
Quintero shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Oneil sprawls well. Oneil wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Quintero gets slowly back to his feet.
Quintero throws a nice inside leg kick.
Quintero shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Quintero avoids the head kick by Oneil.

Quintero gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here.
Quintero is working hard here but doesn't seem to be able to control effectively, up against the cage.
Quintero has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Oneil avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.
Quintero looks winded!

Quintero lands a knee to the head there! That was nasty!

Quintero gets control of Oneil's arms and successfully pulls guard. Quintero will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back.
The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.
Oneil stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Quintero swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Quintero throws some sloppy strikes off his back.
Oneil tries to free his leg and advance position but Quintero is retaining full guard.
Oneil wants to stand but Quintero has a closed guard, so he can't escape.

Oneil trying desperately to get back to his feet here but he's not having any joy at all. He's going to tire himself out if he's not careful.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Oneil trying to control but Quintero is working from the bottom.
Quintero lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Oneil!
Quintero working some short elbows here. He postures up to throw some more ground and pound but Oneil slips a leg through to get back to half guard. Nice work.
Oneil is looking for a sweep. Quintero is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.

Quintero moves nicely into side control.
Oneil managing to avoid any damage from the strikes thrown by Quintero.
Quintero wants to control but Oneil is keeping him busy.
Quintero working away.
Oneil is positioning himself to get back to half guard.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
The ground and pound from Quintero seems to be hitting the mat more than his opponent.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Bang Quintero dominated that round.
That's time! Oneil's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.


Quintero tries for a takedown but Oneil sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.

Quintero moves into the clinch.
Quintero gets double underhooks to prevent a takedown attempt from Oneil.
Oneil is trying to break free.

Quintero manages to break the clinch.

Quintero rushes Oneil and presses him up against the cage.
Quintero drops down looking for an ankle pick but Oneil pulls his leg out and moves away.
Quintero will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Norberto Oneil has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Bang Quintero.
Quintero looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.

Oneil fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Quintero sprawls well initially but Oneil persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
Quintero is pressing down on Oneil's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.

The fighters are working up against the cage. Quintero manages to wriggle his way back to his feet, so the fighters are now clinched against the cage.
Quintero tries for a takedown. No joy.
Quintero is breathing heavily.
Oneil just leaning against Quintero, taking a breather.
Oneil is trying to work out of this bad position, with his back against the cage.
Quintero looking for a takedown.
Quintero jumps guard but Oneil turns him against the cage and keeps the fight standing.
Oneil tries to pull guard but Quintero won't allow it.
Quintero wants to take the fight to the mat but Oneil manages to get underhooks and keep the fight in the clinch.

Quintero breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.

The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Quintero has managed to clinch.

Quintero pulls Oneil into guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Oneil is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
Quintero looking to hit a scissor sweep but Oneil is one step ahead there.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Norberto Oneil.
Oneil tries to clinch up.
Quintero shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
The fight stays on the outside here - Quintero looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Oneil tries for a takedown but Quintero sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.

and Oneil counters with a takedown into side control! That could mean trouble for Quintero!

Oneil tries to get to his feet but he's trapped momentarily.
Norberto Oneil overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Oneil gets to mount! Quintero was on the offensive and wasn't defending properly.
Quintero is desperately trying to get back to half guard.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Oneil wants to control the pace but Quintero is squirming around nicely.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close second round but I would say that Norberto Oneil will probably get the nod.
Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin! So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.


Oneil shoots in for a double leg but Quintero sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
Horrible takedown by Quintero or perhaps it was just good defense by Oneil which made him look bad.
Quintero fails with a takedown attempt.
Oneil shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Quintero but Quintero pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Quintero bobs and weaves and then throws a good body kick.
Quintero fails with a takedown attempt.
Norberto Oneil has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Bang Quintero.
Oneil misses with an uppercut.
Oneil misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.

Quintero tries to clinch up but Oneil circles away and keeps his distance.

Oneil closes the distance and clinches.

Quintero breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.

Quintero takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Oneil looks like he'd prefer to be striking at range right now.
Oneil tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Quintero just stands there and leans against the cage.
Oneil jumps guard but Quintero turns him against the cage and keeps the fight standing.

Quintero misses with a hook from the clinch.
Quintero jumps guard but Oneil stands there with Quintero around his waist. Quintero gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.
Quintero is working for a takedown up against the cage. He can't get it on this occasion though.
Oneil tries a shoulder strike but it doesn't do any damage.
A real battle for position is taking place between these two warriors.

Oneil wants to take the fight to the mat but Quintero manages to get underhooks and keep the fight in the clinch.
Quintero lands a right hand.
Quintero drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Oneil gets the underhooks and prevents it.
Quintero is trying to force a seperation but Oneil has the dominant position.

Oneil has dropped down and is looking to force the takedown but it's defended by Quintero after a bit of a struggle.
Quintero fails to pull guard.
Quintero jumps guard but Oneil turns him against the cage and keeps the fight standing.
Quintero is working for takedown but Oneil is calmly controlling the position for now.
Oneil goes for a body shot but it's blocked.
Oneil has Quintero pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Quintero manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.
Quintero misses with a knee strike.
Oneil misses the knee to the body. Nice hip positioning from Quintero.
Oneil jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Quintero walks away with a smile on his face. Oneil gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.
Bang Quintero seems to be getting the better of the standup.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Quintero dives in for a single leg takedown but Oneil sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage.

Oneil successfully pulls guard.

Oneil had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Quintero defends it easily.
Quintero wants to control from the top but Oneil keeps moving.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Oneil looking for a sweep. Not yet Oneil, not yet.

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Norberto Oneil.
I think Oneil has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
