PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Dylan Baker (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Reginald Lewis (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Lewis has chosen Enter Sandman as his entrance music. Reginald Lewis told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 6 - 0, fighting out of New York, Dylan Baker!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 9 - 10 - 0, fighting out of New York, Reginald Lewis!
The judges for this bout are Columbo Gatti, John Roberts and Jonathan Paton.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Lewis shoots in and bounces Baker off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
Lewis looks really tired already! That doesn't bode well for a good, competitive fight!
Baker avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
My spies in Justice Pain Inc. inform me that Lewis has been getting involved in the gym's BJJ sparring sessions. Let's see whether that pays dividends!
Baker is trying to control the position but Lewis postures up.
Lewis loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.

Baker looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.

The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Lewis stands up over Baker, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.

Lewis throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.
Lewis missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.
Baker avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
Lewis trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.
Lewis throws a strike but Baker rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.

Baker thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.

Baker is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.

Baker postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Lewis is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Baker, into his guard.
Lewis working in close now, lands a nice elbow to the side of Baker's head.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Lewis working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
Lewis throws a big right hand that misses.
Lewis is sitting in guard, working some ground and pound.
Lewis postures up in Baker's guard and throws a big left but Baker blocks it.
Baker avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
Lewis working from the guard for now, landing some ground and pound.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Lewis loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
Lewis throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Baker works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Lewis postures up in Baker's guard and throws a big left but Baker blocks it.
Lewis is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
Lewis in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Reginald Lewis dominated that round.
That's time! Baker's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.



Baker closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.

Baker looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.

Baker is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.
Lewis is breathing heavily.

Baker is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Lewis sees it coming and defends easily.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Baker is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Lewis has managed to free his arm - good work.
Lewis wants to improve his position but Baker is controlling well.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

Baker is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.

Baker looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Lewis is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Baker is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Lewis doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Baker.
Baker working to pass to mount. He's got his hand pressing down on Lewis's thigh. Lewis counters though and makes it back to full guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

Baker has gone for a leg lock! Lewis slips out almost immediately though and dives into Baker's guard.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Lewis throws a big elbow that misses.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Dylan Baker dominated that second round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. This is the final round!



Baker closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Lewis quickly recovers to half guard.

Baker is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Lewis sees it coming and defends easily.

Baker is trying to work for a kimura but Lewis is defending well.

Lewis kicks off Baker and gets to his feet.
Lewis takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Baker is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Lewis's half guard.

Baker is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Baker is looking for a kimura but Lewis is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Baker to get the leverage.

Baker wants to work for an arm triangle but Lewis is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
Lewis manages to get to full guard.
Reginald Lewis has got the better of the ground game so far.

Baker drops back, looking for a kneebar! Lewis looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Lewis looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Lewis!
Baker managing to avoid any damage from the strikes thrown by Lewis.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Lewis looking to punish the body of his opponent here but Baker is avoiding damage well.
The strikes coming from Lewis are missing the target in this wave of attacks.
Baker wants to control but Lewis postures up.
Lewis misses with a strike but at least he's keeping busy, looking to cause some damage - that will still help him when it comes to the judges scorecards.
Lewis tries to land with some ground and pound but misses.
Lewis works a knee to the body and follows up with a nice elbow to the head.
Lewis postures up a little and throws a couple of hammerfists but they don't connect properly.
Lewis throwing ground and pound but whilst doing so, he forgets to control position and Baker works his way back to half guard. Good composure under pressure.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Lewis seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime.
Lewis working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.
Lewis misses with a head shot. Baker uses the momentum to regain guard.
Lewis throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Lewis throws an elbow that misses. Baker uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Lewis's guard. Nice move by Baker!

Baker is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Lewis is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Lewis has escaped and now he's on top!

And that's the end of the fight!
I would just about give that final round to Reginald Lewis.
I think Lewis has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
