The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Poirier gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily and Please holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch. Poirier is trying to break free. Please gets double underhooks and manages to take the fight to the ground. We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake. We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon. Poirier is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Please is aware though and is defending well. Please controls the pace of the fight for a moment. Please is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two. Please must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu. Please trying to control but Poirier is working from the bottom. Poirier might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground. Poirier is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
That's one minute gone in the round. Poirier wants to control but Please passes easily into half guard.
Please decides to stand up. Please shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Poirier napping and manages to drive through into side control! Please decides to take the fight back to the feet. Poirier shoots in but doesn't get the takedown so Please counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility. This has been an exciting period of action! Poirier is trying to control the position but Please postures up. Poirier working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Please doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Oh but Poirier is tightening it up a little... Please has to be careful here... He's got his foot tucked under now, this looks tight! Please reacted too slowly and this one could be over in a matter of seconds! YES! Please taps out! Nice BJJ there by Poirier!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:57 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Triangle Choke). Dustin Poirier!
